2. Some countries don’t want Ukraine in NATO, why does he think he’s entitled a membership exactly?

   NATO was ALWAYS about unanimity, if there is one country that doesn’t want you in, there is nothing to discuss unless that country wants to negotiate your entry.

   There is nothing wrong with that, technically NATO entails that all those countries are willing to send their boys to die for you, that kind of relationship warrants trust and the word of every member must be respected.

   Trump is a moron and the way he negotiates with Ukraine is pathetic, but Ukraine can’t act like we owe it anything.

3. To all that magats: is this what a dictator is? Offering to surrender power for peace? Giving up his authority so that his nation isn’t broken up and sold to its invader?

4. And thus freedom in Europe ended. This world as we know it is over. Hopefully it won’t end with ww3 but the only alternative I see is Europe slowly ceasing to exist and being divvied up between the US and Russia.

5. Don’t get me wrong. But didn’t this started because Russia has been saying since at least 2008 that Ukraine is not going to enter NATO? What has changed in the last weeks for that to Russia change their opinion on that?

6. Agree with most of what he said but he wasnt gonna win the next election anyway so thats a bit cheeky to make it out as some kind of noble sacrifice he’s making.

7. This is just a PR move from him as he has nothing to offer in the negotiations.

   Ukraine will never join NATO. The country had glaring problems even before the war started, why would it change now?

   The peace will be achieved when Ukraine agrees to giving up of their territories and there will be a demilitarised zone patroled by NATO troops. Similar to what US agreed in Kosovo. It’s the only deal Russia might agree on.

   If Zelensky keeps his firm stance, Russia will just continue the war. Ukraine is on the verge of lowering conscription to 18 years and that would probably lead to the end of Zelensky.

   It’s harsh, but it’s the reality Ukraine must face. US and EU would have to continue supporting Ukraine with hope that Russia will crumble eventually under sanctions. All of this would simply lead to China becoming the strongest force in the world right now.

8. An alternative to NATO membership would be for Ukraine to get their nukes back. Russia broke the treaty which had them release their nukes, only fair they get that back.

9. I wouldn’t trust anything the US guarantees. Ukraine will give them everything and Trump will still hand everything over to Putin. A deal with trump is like a deal with Putin: worthless.
