The person who wrote this letter did a great job. It’s great (and really sad) to see what goes on in these cases and he did a great job in asking questions about the legal and financial aspects (and madness) of it.
Mijn hart gaat echt uit naar alle slachtoffers van seksueel geweld (zowel de rechtstreekse als de onrechtstreekse slachtoffers). De manier waarop justitie verkrachtingszaken behandelt, is ronduit misselijkmakend. Ik kijk uit naar een (hopelijk niet al te verre) toekomst waarin dit soort zaken zéér streng worden bestraft en waarin de slachtoffers niet het onderspit delven.
I get we are a society that prefer re-integration (and so do I), but with these types of crimes we really should have the criminal forcibly pay for the treatment cost, including mental treatment of the victim.
There can be no re-integration without doing your best to undo what you’ve done.
In the mean time we as a society should also support these victims much more. It’s inhuman this person has no recourse or support to deal with something she holds no blame in.
