This stealth tax has existed since the beginning of the introduction of the thresholds. Sometimes the threshold is raised (usually not enough to cover wage inflation), more often than not it’s not. This is nothing new and happens most years. Anyone who has only just noticed this is not particularly well informed

Sunak has tolerated huge profit taking while requiring wage restraint. While people have wage ‘rises’ below the rate of inflation they are actually having wage cuts. Inflation is synonymous with wage cuts as it cuts your purchasing power. Since wages are falling they do not cause price rises. The only explanation for price rises is that they are due to Profit. Sunak is driving a profit driven inflation crisis. Why?
