It’s not my imagination… car headlights really ARE brighter

  1. It’s honestly baffling how bright these new lights are. I do be literally blinded on the road at night. Out of complete frustration with this I actually have started to give the fingers to these drivers 😂

  2. It’s not so bad on N roads or on the Motorway because they are gone past you fairly quickly but in town when they are stopped at junctions or even just parked up and for some reason have their headlights on it can be difficult to see anything else.

  3. I think the problem is that with basically every car post like 2015 being an SUV is that they’re higher. In my Ford Focus my windscreen is level with the headlights of all the SUVs so they shine directly into my face every time.

  4. Story from across the water about people now driving less often at night because of these lights.

  5. Phew, I thought r/Ireland was going to go a full day without a post about headlights….

  6. I got a cheap pair of night time driving ‘sunglasses’ (but yellow), and they really do seem to help.

  7. Everyone also had the bright idea of buying an SUV or just a jacked up hatchback equivalent so their lights are at eye level for anyone who drives a normal car. I hate it.

  8. My brother got a brand new Suzuki Swift. Nice car. They come with these bright lights. No need as it’s a small car. He said he’s driving along minding his own business and occasionally people flash him thinking he’s got his full beams on.

  9. This problem started years ago when people decided the standard bulbs are not bright enough and put in non standard, I had a mate who did this and fuck me the dim looked like full all the time

Yet he couldn’t see even at that, soon after he got glasses but still kept the bulbs in the car

  10. Repleat with awesome puns, like this “The bad news – and I can’t understand why the authorities didn’t see this coming…”

  11. He started by saying that we process blue light and yellow light differently, but never put forward that we could maybe switch to yellow LEDs in his list of possible solutions?

If that really is the case then it’s an obvious solution, no?

  12. The bigger issue is that this can be solved by adjusting the headlights in the car usually with a dial but most people have never even attempted this so everyone is getting blinded . Ive noticed a few cars that have adjusted this and the lights are not blinding .

  13. Bright lights. On tall cars. Aiming right down into you.

My car is low to the ground and it’s like being in a bomber caught in a searchlight over berlin. And they just don’t fuck off and get it.

I’ve Xenon lights, but I’m so low they aim under most cars.

  14. I have noticed this too but thankfully my 16 year old car has some kind of magic auto dim feature on the rear view mirror.

Doesn’t help with the ones coming head on though.

  15. And….if you don’t make sure to stop the influx of “lifted” vehicles, the headlights will also get higher and shine down directly into your eyes.

  16. Imagine the amount of dickheads with superiority complexes losing their shit when the car salesman said “the lights dip themselves”

  17. Chicken rolls cost €100 and me mother ate the dog

  18. The big cars/vans/trucks are a nightmare because they are so wild they hit both side mirrors with their lights

  19. I don’t do a lot of driving at night but I always end up hating it, I don’t think I could drive 2 minutes around town without being blinded.

And even worse, during the day last week, I was behind a new Audi a3 and its led brake lights were unbelievably bright, eye piercing, I really hope this isn’t going to become common.

  20. I bought a screen that clips to the sun visor, it’s actually made driving at night more bearable. Completely take the sting and light out of full beams
