  5. German here. A word of caution: he’s a bit shit.

    He’s not a fascist (citation needed), but that’s pretty much the only good thing about him. He’s the kind of guy that thinks McKinsey brings humanity forward, the ‘C’ in CDU being enough christian value already, and generally just hates poor people, and also people that *actually* work.

    Come to think of it, he pretty much resembles a standard corporate democrat. Are you excited already?

    He did forcibly condemn the election interference from Musk by name though which is nice.

    … I don’t think I even need to add anything to these quotes to make people understand how stupid they are. But I still find it shocking that the US president tweets like that. I hope dementia gets to him fast.

  16. Part of what makes a nation powerful is how much soft power it has over the rest of the world. An alliance you make with one country pays dividends in that it’s one less country that can be influenced by outside forces, including that country’s own government.

    Trump and Elon seem to view soft power as a needless expense, since it’s the process of spending money to get nothing *tangible* in return. You can see this in all his foreign policy. His proposed deal with Ukraine is to “pay back” the “expense” of supporting them. He talks about the real estate opportunities from “owning” Gaza if they help Israel. And he has said taking Canada would “wipe away” their national debt.

    It’s incredibly short-sighted and downright malicious, but it’s a hallmark of the extremely narcissistic. They don’t want friends and allies, they want employees and subjects. They’re willing to cut off everyone that might push back, hold them accountable, or simply not make them money if it means they make more money and never get told “no”.

    He has a private plane and thinks it’s normal. (Average german houshold makes 25k€/a)

    He used his contacts to get a position at Blackrock, he thinks “Rape” shouldn’t be a crie between married people.

    And he is a Sauerländer.

    And even Merz thinks that Trump is just an asshole who sold out to russia long ago.

    Germany’s new leader is center-right.

    In the US, anyone to the right of Reagan has to ally with the Republican Nazis.

    In Germany’s multiparty system, you can be ideologically center right and still be wholly distinct from AfD.
