  1. Stupid decision of the judge, especially given the harsh trial by media that already occurred. Don’t walk your dog unleashed.

Edit: apparently a very unpopular or at least controversial opinion according to the downvotes. Feel free to explain to me. If I’m walking somewhere and an unleashed dog starts being aggressive towards me, you shouting “he’s a good boy and won’t harm you” doesn’t mean shit. Why? Because it’s clear you can’t control your dog the way you think you can. Hell, if your dog runs aggressively towards my daughter I’d punt him back to where he came from before he has the chance to reach my daughter. Not because I *want* to. Hell, I have 4 pets myself and would feel absolutely shit about killing an animal. But because it’s clear *you* have no control over yours and I’m not taking chances to get her scarred or traumatized for life.

  2. Please keep your dogs leashed. I was nearly bitten by a dog once and I dont handle dogs running towards me well. I do panic. People do stupid things when they panic.

It’s just sad for everyone involved in this case. Yes, including the jogger.

As I see it carrying a knife seems to be something to be looked at but the court completely overlooked that part.

  3. Now where was that article about how almost all serial killers/psychopaths start out with animal abuse…

EDIT: absuse? There’s no such thing as absuse…

  4. This can’t just be me right? But how can a news article about a court case not mention 1) what exactly someone is found guilty of, and 2) why that person is found guilty by the judge?

I find it really annoying that so very often, news articles about court cases don’t answer one or both of these very basic questions.

In case anyone wants to know, [here](https://www.hln.be/waasmunster/jogger-die-hondje-dribbel-doodstak-krijgt-straf-met-uitstel-fout-ligt-ook-deels-bij-baasje~af20a616/) hln (I know) explains it:
    1) guilty of animal abuse
    2) combination of there being an alternative to stabbing the dog and there being no evidence of the dog attacking

  5. One of the most worrying aspects to me is the €9.600 in damages the jogger has to pay to the dog owner. I run regularly, mostly in local parks and along towpaths. Almost every week I see dogs running around unleashed. A few times a year dogs come uncomfortably close or seem aggressive. When you inform the owners (politely) you don’t like this the most likely outcomes are disinterest or insults. I was bitten a few years ago (nothing serious but it’s a hassle to take care of) the owner just left and the police never found out who was responsible.

We live in a place with a very high population density, open space is precious and the safety of all those (including other animals) in it should be more taken seriously. The jogger his decision to stab the dog was stupid and not appropriate. There should be a consequence to this. The decision to let your dog of the leash in an area where it is forbidden is also stupid, if something happens you shouldn’t be awarded for your selfish behaviour.

  6. The well trained highly educated sportsman did not kill the dog because he felt his life was in danger, no he stabbed precisely with a long small knife because he was interrupted in his daily run and therefore about not to burn a few calories.

I was attacked several times during running in the park by small dogs and they cannot bite through the runningsneakers, i always try not to step on them and it makes me rather smile in stead of angry. For me the runner is a psycho.
