I’ve noticed that Russia doesn’t really have preserved historical towns. Is this because of communists destroying them, the Nazis or because they tended to be built out of wood?
Strangely, Suzdal reminded me of rural Japan a bit. There’s the same sense that the last 100 years have gone past without them noticing.
