Ozols headed the Basketball Association from 1992 to 1995.

In 1990, Ozols was elected to the Supreme Council as a atmember of the Popular Front of Latvia (LTF).  Ozols worked on the drafting of the annual budget laws, chaired the Subcommittee on Convertible Currency, organized the drafting of the first law on the State Audit Office of the Republic of Latvia, and defended i.

At the session of May 4 1990, Ozols was one of the deputies who voted in favor of the Declaration on the Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia.

In 2000, he was awarded the Order of the Three Stars, third class.
