I came from Singapore and I have brought some stuffs with me including a TpLink Wifi 6 router.
I am applying for an internet connection in Telekom and it says I need an IP-enabled router and there’s a bunch of optional routers that you can add to your order.
Do I really need them? Are they only optional because Telekom assures you have an existing router from another provider?

Usually you can Just buy a cheap “fritzbox” and It works. At least thats what i did when i was in University trying to save every Cent i could.
As long as you can enter the telekom log in data into your router and your hardware fits your network ( ADSL, Cable etc.) it should be no problem. I configured TP Links, Netgears etc for friends who are telekom customers.
The Speedport Smart 4 that you’re being offered has an integrated VDSL modem that you might need, depending on what technology your contract uses. In the unlikely case of you not getting a VDSL but a FTTH connection, your TP Link router will do fine. In the other case you’ll need a modem to make that TP Link device work.
A router is never enough. Does it have a modem included? Is that modem suitable for the type of connection that Telekom provides you?
If yes to both, Telekom should provide you with the connection details so you can make use of it.
