After reading through several articles and sources on this I have to say that I disagree with the Ukrainian stance on this. The issue here seems to be that the Red Cross is trying to work with Russia as well as with Ukraine. The Red Cross has to try and work with all sides in a conflict to do their work. Pretty much all humanitarian organizations have to do that or their work would become impossible. That’s why some humanitarian organizations also work with Taliban and such.
This is so dumb I cant believe it.
Not even fucking Nazi Germany or the Soviet Union during the most brutal war in europe thought the Red Cross was not neutral…..

Red Cross/Crescent goal is to help people. The politics shouldn’t concern them and if they can help the hostages they should do what’s necessary to do it.
Red Cross is fucked up in Belarus too. During the Belarusian protests they were taking help for the jailed people and giving it to OMON (Riot police/Lukashenko’s personal guard)

I see a lot of people attacking Ukraine for these comments and believe that it is unfair.
We grew up with a picture of Red Cross as an impartial, non-political, not-for-profit humanitarian organization.
Unfortunately, this could not be farther for the truth. Over the decades, this organization (much like IOC, FIFA and other large international organizations unanswerable to anyone) turned into a cynical machine for peddling influence and enriching its leadership.
The way they acted in Ukraine was abysmal (minimum help, no visits from any senior officials, left Mariupol in the middle of the largest humanitarian catastrophy, didn’t involve themselves in the efforts to set up a humanitarian evacuation corridor, etc.)
On the other hand, their president Peter Maurer flew to Moscow three days ago, met with Foreign Minister Lavrov and thanked Russia for “positive cooperation”.
It’s sad that this is happening, but please don’t attack Ukranian leadership for their statements. They have very good reasons behind them.
And don’t donate to the Red Cross, there’s plenty of immeasurably better alternatives.

Sick and tired of hearing demands from Empire Ukraine.
Actually the Red Cross is very corrupted. They participated in fraud elections in Belarus and didn’t do anything to really help people who were tortured in prisons.
Maybe the statement is quite radical but for sure the Red Cross should be revised and reformed because currently they are not doing great.
Even though I stand with Ukraine, I gotta say that certain things just can’t happen. boycott from ICANN, Red Cross or a fast-track membership into the EU.

I think Ukraine will gather a lot of disapproval from the westerners if they continue to act in this manner. I mean, you can already see on this subreddit there are people who are getting sick of Ukraine’s attitude. Constantly making demands and singling out countries and institutions that won’t be entirely on their side and basically take a shit on Russia’s head. West is giving Ukraine unprecedented amount of military aid while covering the situation in Ukraine daily, which maintains public consciousness and keeps donations and humanitarian help flowing. Ukraine is being too hostile towards everyone. I get that they are in shitty situation and want as much help as possible, but this isn’t the way. I hope for Ukraine’s sake they will get to senses.

May I please ask, for my understanding: is there an alternative? or what is the Red Cross doing there now – taking care for wounded people? providing medical staff? or do they do other tasks like logistics?

I’m glad I donated to Come Back Alive and not the Red Cross. Ukrainians are fighting a war, not a natural disaster, and in my opinion the best way to support them is by giving money directly to them instead of through some dodgy international third party organisation. Collaborating with the Russians is the nail on the head.

As a volunteer at the Red Cross Youth, this is quite an idiotic decision to be made. We’ve procured so much humanitarian aid for Ukraine’s people and done so much to accommodate the refugees, wherever they may be.
The Red Cross/ Crescent/ Crystal is a 100% NEUTRAL and APOLITICAL organisation. We can’t just say “Putin bad” or “Fuck Russia”, because then we’d be perceived as a threat, rather than a force alleviating human suffering of the absolute worst kind. Our stubborn neutrality and willingness to help all sides is the reason why even ISIS didn’t interfere with medics and humanitarian workers from the Red Cross.
