‘Are you just a shameless criminal?’: P&O boss grilled over mass sackings

  1. Upon hearing the question, Hebblethwaite looked over his shoulder wandering which Cabinet Minister had entered the room

  2. Nice to see them getting a grilling but honestly the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and unless these corporate shitbags have actual consequences they will just carry on.

  3. He clearly admitted deciding to break the law. The company should be fined so much that they cannot make a profit. Jail for the directors would also be good.

  4. Classic, £325k a year and he doesn’t even have a basic grasp of employment law. Hopefully P&O let this mug go soon, might throw my CV into the ring if this level of competence is all that’s required to be a CEO

  5. He is just doing what other companies would happily do if they could. He has just dropped the facade about caring about employee rights and is treating them as well as he thinks they deserve to be treated. P&O have been caught out, however there’s is an attitude shared by many other companies who would do the same in a heartbeat.

  6. There is a great point raised regarding driving above the speed limit as a non punishable offence if the fine is so small as to be meaningless.

This type of situation where its cheaper to pay the fine and compensation rather than act within the law makes a mockery of any company actually abiding by the law.

  7. If upper management are willing to break this law how the fuck can they be trusted not to break others.

Fuck them, I’ll never give them a penny.

  8. Wow, that’s amazing to watch. It’s hard to imagine such bullshit being called out these days especially by anything setup by the government. Does anyone have the full recording?

  9. The other day I wrote that P&O would have had an army of lawyers ensuring that what they did was within the confines of the law, even if it wasn’t morally right. Clearly I was wrong and it was brazen and deliberate. What little faith I had in these systems has now gone completely.

I’m glad the panel didn’t mince their words, but you know nothing of going to happen.

  10. He admitted to breaking the law. There should be a police investigstion. If you follow through all the actions that are obviously not legal now that happened due to the illegal acts this person admitted to, serious harm has been caused to many people.
People have recieved custodial sentences for commiting less harm.
But I suspect he will get away with it.
I will never use a p&0 ferry as I am sure they are unsafe. Nobody should use the services of this badly run company.
