WILLEMSTAD – During the first-quarter Film Happy Hour, organized by Film Office Curaçao (CFO) and held at Mondi Beach Club, it was announced that Curaçao is now part of the co-production agreement between the Netherlands and Canada.
After extensive research, the Curaçao Film Office, with the assistance of Canadian director and producer TJ Scott, has confirmed that Curaçao has been included in this co-production agreement. This marks a significant development for the island’s film industry.
A co-production agreement between two countries allows filmmakers to collaborate under favorable conditions, granting them the ability to shoot in each other’s territories. With Curaçao now included, local producers can partner with Canadian filmmakers and gain access to Canadian government funding for film projects.
Major Canadian production companies, such as Telefilm Canada and Shaftesbury, have already expressed interest in filming in Curaçao under this agreement.
However, for the co-production agreement to take full effect, the Curaçao Film Office must finalize its film incentive plan in the near future.
