Jens Stoltenburg is the Secretary General of NATO. Back in 2018 he was warned about the risks of having Europe’s energy so reliant on Russia. Yet not much happened to change things after, until now with the recent invasion of Ukraine.
Thoughts?

And what could he have done?
Nato is a defence organization. It has no say in how the european countries are ruled. Stoltenberg can advise but he can not interfere in how the governments decide to rule their countries.

Ah, I didn’t know Stoltenberg was responsible for Europe’s energy grid. I thought he was just the leader of NATO, a defense organization. I can’t believe he wouldn’t do anything about this.
As head of NATO, there is nothing he could realistically do about that

With that statement I have to wonder if you know what NATO even is? What do you think the responsibilities of the secretary general of NATO are?
When you first asked this question over on /r/germany and people replied telling you that he’s Norwegian and there’s nothing he could do about that particular issue, I don’t think they meant “go ask /r/norway”, I think they meant “the question is nonsensical as there’s really nothing the Head of NATO can do about German reliance on Russian energy”.
NATO is not the world police. Why bother adding selective, strict criterias and conditions to join if every country will blame NATO in case of an invasion? It is a defensive alliance. Members like US, UK, Poland and Turkey have been doing some heavy lifting in the help of Ukraine.. People should really face the realities and not get too emotional.

Anything to get that sweet karma. 😂
Jens Stoltenberg is a career politician that will do anything to stay in power.
He is the son of a former foreign minister and career diplomat and grew up the best part of Oslo. This is important as it shows his climb to power was by dynasty and family ambition, not by experience or talent.
Stoltenberg is the Secretary General of NATO because the USA wanted him to be. Being a career politicion from a small country the americans knew he will do whatever they tell him to do. Norway doesnt have a credible defence and the sole plan is that the americans will save us.
Stoltenberg warned about the EU being reliant on russian energy in 2018 because Trump told him to do so. It is that simple. He has zero power or influence and he will simply read the statements given to him by the americans.
To think that he can change EU energy policy is laughable.
The Secretary General of NATO is a civil servant. His responsibilities include coordinating the meetings and acting as a spokesperson. His responsibilities does not include making policy decisions for NATO or for the individual NATO countries.
I think that Jens Stoltenberg has performed that job well.
