Until they outlaw speaking french there is no hope for them. 😁
The article is about CANZUK and what it could present for Canada now with Trump threatening tariffs on a monthly basis, along with a host of other things. For context, this is already an official party policy for both the Liberals and the Conservatives in Canada. It recently came up in a leadership debate of the Liberal Party, with the winner of that ongoing race set to replace Trudeau as Prime Minister.
We don’t need Terrence & Philip or Maple Syrup. I assume they are the only 2 Canadian exports.
But seriously, anything we can do to become less of a bitch to the US has my backing.
I think most Brits wouldn’t object to closer ties with Canada. We are living in a new diplomatic world and we need as many friends as we can get.
Two way transatlantic pipeline for scotch and maple syrup.
As the king of northern Ireland I would be happy to extend and deepen out connection with the great white north
not that I don’t think this is great, but why only now?
And it’s avoiding the main point: all the English-speaking Western countries should be working together, including the US, Australia and New Zealand.
EDIT: I think the downvoter lives in a separate reality where there is any significant difference between Canadians and Americans anyway, above the bluster.
Just the facts.
Our Canadian family is always welcome here, if you ask me!
Amazing what 4 years can do.
When this was first brought up after Brexit it was shut down as racist, imperialistic, colonialist, monarchism, nostalgic nonsense.
Building ties between the Commonwealth and then building ties between than and Europe sees like the most realistic shot for a better future I can think of.
Races to revive? When did we stop having good relations and close ties with Canada?
I love Canadians and Canada, we have distant family there. I also love Europe too. Time to exercise some unity and ignore the hate and fear mongering rhetoric from the current US administration. Plus no doubt this would majorly piss them off which is also a win.
All for it, Canadians have always been the nice Americans, took them no time at all to offer support to the allies in both world wars and they didn’t saddle us with a load of debt for their troubles. There really shouldn’t be any question about us having their backs.
Canada, you are welcome and always have been. Same applies to Australians and New Zealanders – there’ll always be a place for you.
Better relationship with Canada ? Is there a downside to this ?
I am all for it.
Some feedback…
UKCANZ is both a more positive message and works in a number of ways.
Better relations and trade…UKCANZ do it!
Trump… UKCANZ fuck right off!
Great news, Canadians are awesome and their country is stunning.
Canada were offered a trade deal with the uk (on the same terms as they had under the eu) but Canada wouldn’t take it without being allowed to export steroid meat. The uk couldn’t agree as it’s illegal here, and rightfully so.
In hindsight, it seems a whoopsie by the Canucks.
They would, wouldn’t they? Not saying its not a good idea, because it is, but it’s pretty obvious too.
Lets get a CUK alliance through parliament this year
Trade, military and personnel movement
I think we need to have a strong relationship with CANZUK. A free trade and travel zone like the EU but for Anglosphere nations would be hugely beneficial for all countries
Fascinated to see how Farage responds to Trumps threats to Canada, the great fan of the commonwealth that he claims to be.
We need to implement an FTA within the commonwealth.
We love Canada and the rest of the commonwealth. We want more to do with our Canuck mates.
> The U.K. broke off bilateral trade negotiations with Canada last year after a dispute largely over cheese — even as Australia and the U.K. pulled closer in the post-Brexit period.
This is true – but let’s be clear, it’s because Canada wanted to protect its own dairy industry and, therefore, didn’t want to import any more British cheese as suggested by that deal.
The reason? Because Canada already imports 11m kg of cheese from the USA.
Canada chose the US – which also explains this par:
> New Zealand is locked in a trade dispute with Canada over dairy products
If Canada actually wants CANZUK as a proposal, it’s going to have to be properly flexible, not just talk about it.
Excellent. It’s all coming together. Reforming the gang
Free trade between uk, eu and Canada would be great
Yes. I think CANZUK should go ahead. Kick the US out of 5 eyes too. 4 eyes. We also need closer ties with Europe, southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea to counter the US, russia and China.
CANZUK is the dream. CANZUK alliance with strong ties to Europe = America who?
