One of the problems with a potential peacekeeping force in Ukraine is that it would require tens of thousands of troops for it to be meaningful — a capacity that neither France nor the UK has on their own.
Countries such as Poland and the Baltic states, which might contribute to peacekeeping in other ways, have said they will not offer ground troops — for fear of leaving their own countries exposed.
The UK is pressing the US to relocate some of the 100,000 military personnel it has deployed across Europe, particularly in countries such as Germany, to the east, which could allow other European states to participate in a Ukrainian peacekeeping mission.
As David Lammy, the foreign secretary, put it: “That’s hugely important because Poland, the Baltics and other countries are making sure that they’re not putting troops in Ukraine [as] they’re not covered in their own backyards.”
However, Trump has said he wants to water down US forces in Europe, so he is likely to be reluctant to agree to any such plan.
Polish soldiers are not a good fit there. Russians would target them first as they regard Poland as Western vassal. Ukraine needs US, UK, FR and DE soldiers, not any soldiers from countries already bordering Russia.
Why would Poland go there? Poland itself is more important as a country through which all the help is coming.
This means we have to protect our borders. The UK and France should send over their troops, and Poland will watch their backs. Without Poland, neither the UK nor France would survive for days in Ukraine.
Not gonna happen
Poland groud forced are already fully occupied with the defense of strategic targets such as the Suwałki gap and Belarusian border among a few other things, this was already discussed by a Polish general, even if Politicians wanted to, it would leave us exposed. If Europe wants to send the troops, we shouldn’t do it at the expense of creating holes in NATOs Eastern flank.
France borders no enemy countries – basically: pacifist Benelux, Spain with non-existent army and the most benign Germany in human history. United Kingdom is a fucking island, so the Brits need only navy and air forces to defend themselves.
Unlike that, Poland border two last European regimes, one is extremely hostile and constantly attacks its neighbours, and the second is the vassal of the first one. We need Polish army in our borders, ready to defend the homeland. French and British don’t.
Relocate them to America so we don’t get stabbed in the back literally?
Man as an American I have to ask, does Western Europe just expect Eastern Europe to do everything as they sit back and jerk off or whatever?
Soldiers only from nuclear countries
Let them relocate to Ukraine then.
I think polish government should agree only if UK, France or US will give some of nuclear arsenal to Poland. Then I say it is fair game
we are already peacekeeping Krolewiec & Suwalki Gap guys.
I have a bad feeling that this 30-day settlement of the matter by Trump will end in such a mess that we have never expected in our lives 🫡
Nobody wants to go to Ukraine.
Everyone is just point out – You should go, we will make it easier for you.
Poland will keep its troops in NATO protected Poland watching an important border with Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. No need to put Polish troops into Ukraine. Poland does not need to cause problems for itself. It has a better military than Brits have and USA is in Poland helping them out and doing some training and joint exercises. I guess Poland could be a back stop if Russians invade Ukraine again and Brits need to run West for protection.
US troops are Russia’s troops now. But don’t tell the Poles…
Neither Polish nor American soldiers are for Starmer to order around.
Luckily.
I hope Poland doesn’t fall for this. Of course they want to use us as cannon fodder.
Instead, of sending troops to Ukraine Poland should focus on solving the Ost Prussian question in case Russia decides to break the possible truce. Russians while focusing on Ukraine they might not see that coming.
Europe should just deploy air defense and air force. Before cease fire up to 100 km to active front, with engagement radious of another 50 km.
After cease fire, if broken, move engagement 100 km behind the border as long Russians don’t target rest of Europe, only Ukraine. If they target other European assets, we should be able to credibly threaten taking over Belarus and Kaliningrad and destroy most airforce and air defense.
Additionaly, token land force can be placed strategically, to be impossible to attack Ukraine without attacking rest of Europe.
Economically, after cease fire, we should start back oil and gas imports with 10 eur / barrel tax for the next 20 years, where 5 goes to Ukraine rebuilding and 5 for European defence. Bonus is Americans would like that ad it’ll make their exports to us more economical.
Polish army has more than 200 000 personnel, sending 1% to Ukraine will not hurt polish ability to defend, but may convince other countries to send their troops, more countries will have their army there less chance that russia will attack again, we should try convince non european countries to help eg Japan.
It’s so interesting, other countries are trying to decide whether Poland should send their army or not. Not to mention the ones that did not prove to be very reliable in the past. Any sane Polish person doesn’t want this, but I have lots of doubts in our government, unfortunately.
