Trump cuts off talk of Canada annex alongside UK’s Starmer: ‘That’s enough’

1. President Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a press conference where a reporter asked about Trump’s desire to make Canada the 51st state. Starmer deflected the question, stating that there is no divide between the two leaders on top issues and that they had a productive discussion on an economic deal and security in Ukraine. Trump cut off Starmer as he began to say that they didn’t address Canada, saying “That’s enough, thank you” and moving on to another question. The White House later pushed back on the idea that Trump cut off Starmer, claiming that he was simply trying to avoid division. Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to make Canada a part of the US, but Canadian leaders have rejected the idea, and the issue was not discussed further during the press conference.

2. Trump is trying to walk back some of the animosity that he put out wrt Canada. He is starting to realize just how entrenched Canada is within the American economic system.

3. I’m guessing internal polling is showing this isn’t exactly making him more popular, or he’s done trolling for the time being. Time being as he’ll probably say something inane tomorrow about Nepal or Poland.

4. Does anyone think we all (North America including Greenland) would benefit by becoming something like the EU? I could see some of the us states breaking off as well, maybe some of the joining together to become their own “state”

5. I’m actually so glad kier is our prime minister. It seems he’s played trump like a fiddle . He’s walked back on the Zelensky comments , called Keir a tough negotiator.

6. I really do not like that the question about annexing Canada was avoided by Starmer. What a let down.
