  1. It’s incredible how the most milquetoast prime minister imaginable went to Donald Trump’s White House and actually got everything he wanted and more.

The general feeling in the UK from my reading and talking to people is bemused, positive surprise that he actually managed anything at all – the Conservatives and Reform are steaming, and Labour really needed this. Some Lib Dems, for what it’s worth, have congratulated Starmer as well. Literally no one thought this could happen

  2. ‘Not being dumb’ has basically been Keir Starmer’s main political strategy.

In the run up to the election he took a backseat instead of radical action. Without obstruction, the conservatives weren’t able to point fingers and people had no choice but to accept they were responsible for their actions and so they imploded.

Post election, people are still mad he isn’t taking radical action and ‘pressing the magic make everything work button’. But his budget actually works on paper with the realities in front of us, and he’s made solid steps where possible in housing and immigration.

In the trump shitshow, people want him to be a weapon we beat the bad man with. But instead of taking radical action, he’s building relations and getting results.

This pragmatic, sensible style of politics is what Britain used to be before the Brexit dementia kicked in. So he’s basically doomed at the next election.

  3. I was kind of expecting/hoping for this.I live in the UK.

Starmer is a boring, sensible kind of guy,who will have prepared well, and it paid of.

Boring politicians often do the job well, unlike the clowns who hypnotise crowds and bully their way into power.

  4. You know things are unstable and that it’s getting bad, when

“the Uk and US are still friends!”

    is a win.

It’s a bit like saying leaving work to go home and finding that your car is still in the car park and hasn’t been stolen is a win.

  5. Well played by Starmer. But I have no doubt that Trump is also rewarding the UK for Brexit. Trump and his ilk dislike the EU immensely as they see us as a threat on many levels. They are supporting all the eurosceptic factions around Europe.

  6. I suppose the problem remains is how many of these wins will still be in place after Trumps’ next phone call with Putin? Consistency and “keeping ones word” don’t seem common traits for Donald.

  7. Instead of putting up a united front, they’re all individually grovelling, throwing each other under the bus, giving that deranged maniac all the wind he needs for his next tweet or speech or proclamation.
