Greyhound racing ban will be ‘fully considered’ by Scottish Government

  1. It should be banned, but it’s barely even happening these days in the first place. There’s what, one (semi) active track in the country? I think that shows the public’s opinion on it, so there shouldn’t be much consideration needed.

  2. Good. Just ban it, it’s a naff sport anyway, but more importantly the dogs are treated like shit then need to be rehomed – or worse, abandoned – for 75% of their lives after they’re done racing.

Frankly we should probably ban horse racing too but at least most horses nowadays are treated fairly well.

  3. It’s disgusting how many dog rehoming centres, dogs trust etc have so many greyhounds dumped after they become useless for racing

  4. how would you partially consider something? like, i’ll think about it a wee bit but not completely

  5. I wish they would do the same with horse racing

  6. Would this also mean the end of Speedway racing in Scotland as the tracks are hosted at old Greyhound tracks?

  7. I looked closely into adopting a greyhound and the way injured dogs or those not ideal for racing are often treated is absolutely appalling. I appreciate the owners see them as assets or liabilities, not pets, but at least have the decency not to neglect or abuse them.

  8. Labour will likely invoke the Internal Market Act and block the ban.

    Only half joking.

  9. I read this looking at my ex racer greyhound. the ban is long overdue. it’s so much suffering for the most gentle breed. my boy was racing in England, but the churn is so high they are being rehomed wherever possible, because the alternative is euthanasia at the age of 3/4. it’s barbaric.

  10. That’s fine, so long as they don’t ban whippet racing. That would be a step too far
