Hi all, follow-up to this 2024 thread
Anyone got some news? In that thread I see this link;
https://datanews.knack.be/nieuws/telenet-moet-identiteit-illegale-downloaders-mogelijk-vrijgeven/
But I don't find any conclusion to that story.
Thanks & stay safe

Get a VPN and change your DNS to anything other than your ISPs.
As long as you’re not using torrents to upload a terrabyte each month, telenet doesn’t really care.
I’ve been going on without a VPN for years without issue
And thanks to our countries good privacy laws, Telenet does not give out that information without a court order.
I have been downloading for 12 years without issues
I have a friend that downloads via UseNet.
Small price to pay, but everything is SSL encrypted. The only thing visible to the ISP, is ‘User X connected to Server Y and downloaded Z TB of data via HTTPS’
Moeten ze zich daar mee bezig houden? Voor wie dan?
Just change DNS-number. They cant see
Do you know the commercial on a dvd before a movie? Piraterij is een misdrijf. you would steal a car, …
They only paid the musician to use the mysic once. So they pirated the music for it.
So if they can do it, why cant we?
As far as I’m concerned, the moment they put a piracy tax on portable media, piracy was legalized.

(this is not legal advice)
We’ve been doing it in this household since 96.
Don’t worry too much about it. They don’t care unless you’re going to be one of the uploaders, that’s who they crack down on.
If Meta can download through torrents to train their LLM, so can you!

I download like a terrabyte per month on torrents, but rarely seed, never had issues
Been thinking about going down this route again with the plethora of streaming services that all are trying to make a buck. It’s just too much.
How i see it. In the Netherlands you have brein which is succesfull in taking down a lot of private Dutch torrent trackers. Brein is funded by the industry. The Netherlands have a very active community on usenet and torrent trackers and a lot of datacenters in the Netherlands are used for illegal stuff.
We Flemish are users in general and the industry is not focussing on users. We surf along what the world is offering. If the industry would pressure our government things would change but there is no reason for that. We are just too small.
In Germany when you download a torrent you can get af fine between 800-1200 euro so they must use a vpn to be safe. There is a whole industry of lawyers active and making good money. But again we are too small for that too.
So unless there will be laws on the level of the Europion Union i think we do not have to worry.
Funny, everything you buy includes a tax that goes to copyright owners. Incuding PC’s and thumb drives.
This case will not go anywhere. If it was going anywhere it would have been decided by now.
As far as I know, the chance of getting in legal trouble for only downloading is near 0. However, there is a much higher chance of getting into hot water if you let people download from you.
Stop talking about it, this doesn’t help.
