  1. SS: In a very tense White House meeting with Trump and Vance constantly talking over Zelensky, Trump gave an ultimatum saying Zelensky needs to make a deal or the US will no longer aid Ukraine. There is a video of the conversation leading up to that moment [here](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yLZmRScnwy0).

Edit: [Statement](https://x.com/JDVance/status/1895540552277639616/photo/1) on the meeting from Trump put out by Vance. Says Zelensky disrespected the US and only wants the US as an advantage in negotiating and doesn’t want peace. **Non Twitter link [here](https://imgur.com/BFvWWXU)**.

  2. Tha meeting went worse than I guess anyone could have expected it to be

  3. This was such a pathetic and embarrassing encounter. Trump seems out of it, and so incredibly petty needing to take shots at Biden. JD is so incredibly transparently just sucking up to Trump, no backbone whatsoever in that child.

Zelensky was just trying to get a word in, but Vance was insisting Zelensky ought to be on his knees kissing toes and Trump followed Vance’s lead like the witless puppet he is. Obviously and rightfully so Zelensky doesn’t see it that way.

The US simply cannot be relied on at the moment, I really, really, *really* hope the EU gets it shit together and steps up.

  4. I was waiting for the outcome of this meeting for the whole day. I told my colleagues that I felt it was going to be a bad meeting… well, I didn’t expect it to be this bad. I guess I should have zero expectations for the coming years.

  5. I just watched the full interview (or interrogation) and came here.

    Absolute shit show lmao

This video will be taught to IR students for years as an example of how not to engage in diplomacy with a world leader.

  6. Trump doing exactly the thing people voted him in for. There is no surprise here. What transpired is exactly what happens behind closed doors

  7. Trump and Vance speaking to Zelensky as if he were a child was absolutely appalling behavior. These two put on an embarrassing and shameful display.

    Edit: fixed autocorrect

  8. Trump and Vance bullying a president in front of press cameras is a low point in this administrations 2 months. Zelensky must realize he can’t keep the US on board even for a few more months.

I only wish he’d challenge them more directly after they berated him. Especially Vance, he doesn’t wanna litigate this in the Oval Office but bullies Zelensky and blows this whole thing out of proportion. What a pathetic VP

  9. This was not a serious meeting at all. Trump & Vance repeatedly humiliated Zelensky and derailed proceedings for some perceived benefit in domestic optics.

There’s little illusion of morality in geopolitics but this is an unprecedented low.

  10. For many years, perhaps never before have I seen a meeting held at the level of leaders open to the press far removed from diplomatic language.

If Zelensky went to the Kremlin, Putin would probably speak much more politely. If the US President and Vice President treat other countries’ leaders like this in front of the press, what are they doing behind closed doors?

Zelensky has to make a big trip to Europe in the coming weeks. Lot of doors were already closed.

  11. As an American, I hope Zelensky stops coming. I hope Europe comes in and helps Ukraine out, and I hope Ukraine is able to end the war and regain some or all of its territory. Not because I don’t want to help Ukraine, I do. But grovelling in front of this megalomaniac is not going to help Ukraine or anyone else except Trump.

The absolute worst outcome possible would be for Zelensky to agree to give away minerals to the US and then have Russia just get most or all of what they want anyway. Trump is not interested in a just peace. He is interested in extorting Ukraine because he thinks he has all the power. I don’t think that is true, but it is going to take European countries banding together to make that a reality.

  12. Watching from Europe, I’m now convinced the United States is an enemy nation. I can see that country collapsing into civil war sooner rather than later and honestly I think – for the rest of the world – it’ll be a good thing in the long term. The world’s strongest nation going full fascist is simply too much of a threat to allow to exist as a unified nation. The balkanisation of the US would be good for world peace (and blue states could certainly become allies of Europe)

  13. Truly disgusting behavior, but what else do you expect from a pathetic pair of humans like Trump and Vance? It is hilarious to me how Trump is so focused on bullying everyone except Putin, who he constantly sucks up to. If he isn’t a Russian asset (knowingly or not), he’s doing an excellent job of playing one.

Hopefully Europe steps up wrt Ukraine

  14. This is disgraceful and disturbing to witness. U.S. leadership is weak, bending to Putin while pressuring and undermining Ukraine, the actual victim of Russian aggression.

This reckless shift in foreign policy is both naive and dangerous. Europe is on the edge of crisis and must find a way to stand on its own.

But don’t think for a second that the U.S. will be immune from another European war. We will absolutely be pulled in.

That makes the Administration’s approach even more shortsighted; our support for Ukraine is what’s keeping a larger war from breaking out.

  15. What a traitor. What a shame of government, What a shame of president . What a shame of diplomacy. What a shame of person is Trump.

    Please, US citizens: remove him.

  16. If it wasn’t clear before, it’s more clear than ever now. Ukraine can no longer count on American support. Europe must do whatever it takes to keep the Ukrainian war effort alive in the face of an arrogant Putinist Russia.

  17. The thing with Trump is that he sucks at doing deals.

Trump, for the entirety of his life, has relied on being in position where he can simply bully the other part into accepting a deal, or cutting their losses. Suing contractors, suing everyone. Once he meets any resistance, the bully comes out.

  18. “Have you ever been to Ukraine Mr. Vance?”

    I’ve eh… I’ve eh… I’ve read the stories and seen the news.

America, this is your second in command.
    Feel ashamed.

  19. There are many potential candidates, but I think that in 50 years this will be remembered as the end of the post Cold-War order, if not even the post WWII order.

    Truly embarrassing what happened.

  20. This is the worst thing I’ve seen in awhile, it was shameful. JD is a literal gremlin dude

  21. What a sad day for America. I can’t begin to express how much this made my blood boil. It was foolish and degrading, full of lies and falsehoods, absurd insults and extreme disrespect towards Zelensky who was their guest. A new low in a series of lows, we need to move to a post-US allied world asap

  22. This was disgusting. It actually seemed like a setup from Trump and the far right. Even the some of the journalist asking questions. Vance breaking in and escalating the conversation. They just sat and yelled, not letting Zelensky saying anything. I’m so shocked that I’m actually believing that there might be a plan behind this. Not just forcing him to sign a deal, but maybe even make a seismic shift in the world order.

  23. Think we just witnessed the eroding of American empire in real terms, in a very visible way.

If you’re a world leader; Go to Washington DC, and get told you’re ungrateful, and that you have to cut a deal with Trump where he tries to humiliate you, and his whipping boy will berate you for the cameras, or go to China, and get infrastructure, and pandas.

As much as Trump is going to say that he’s trying to stop WW3, what would stop Putin going further now? Trump is going to parrot his lines, and narrative, and he’s going to be enabled.

  24. Trump probably wanted to ridicule Zelenskyy, but it didn’t happen. The truth is I’d never seen a bilateral press conference that ended so badly!

  25. I hate to say it but the best hope for Ukraine may actually be developing nukes at this point. Hopefully they stop wasting time with the US after this meeting and focus on strategies that don’t involve any deal that Trump’s a part of.

  26. I have never felt this much second hand embarrassment as I do for the Americans in my entire 51yrs of existence. The collapse of this empire is being televised and it’s a real gongshow.

  27. Zelensky WILL kiss the ring or we’re done sending our tax dollars. Trump knows exactly what he’s doing.

  28. So i went and read up on FOX and CNN.
Aperantly FOX news has a much kinder attitute towards this whole situation.

What i dont get is this…
How do avarage republican feel watching this at home.

  29. What a pathetic culture whose elected leaders engage with others in such a manner.

  30. This was clearly a stitch-up on the part of the Trump admin.

  31. This is a worse case scenario right. I honestly don’t know how Zelensky could have reacted any differently and he met with the shouting incredibly calm and well. After this interaction other countries now have to step in and support as it’s clearly not coming from Trump.
