Slovenia’s Nika Prevc struck gold on Friday (28 February) in the women’s individual normal hill at the 2025 Nordic World Ski Championships in Trondheim, Norway.

The win marks the first world title for the 19-year-old, who is currently leading the overall FIS World Cup standings.

Prevc earned a total score of 259.2 across her two jumps, nearly eight and a half points clear of Germany’s Selina Freitag, who claimed silver at 250.8. Norway’s Anna Odine Stroem delighted the home crowd with a bronze medal performance, scoring 246.6 points.

“I think I was a little more nervous (than usual) before the competition,” the Slovenian told FIS. “I couldn’t relax in the first round but I somehow got my mind together for the second round. I managed to make a good jump in the final,” she added.

Germany’s Katharina Schmid entered the competition as the defending champion, having won the title in 2023 at Planica. But on Friday, she struggled, finishing 19th after jumps of 90 and 86.5 metres.

Ski jumping competition at the Worlds continues Saturday (1 March) with the women’s team normal hill and qualifying in the men’s individual normal hill.
