  9. I think Trump had no great desire to sign anything with Ukraine from the very beginning.

    He needed an excuse to wash his hands of it. That’s why he proposed an agreement that was inherently crippling. It was so blatantly crippling that in the next version, he softened the terms, but he hoped Ukraine would not sign. When Zelensky agreed to sign, they came up with the idea to stage this mobster show so that Zelensky himself would refuse the agreement. “See? He doesn’t want peace himself. But our friend Vladimir (Putin) — does!”

    No-one would lead negotiations this way if they wanted to make a deal.

They want to put up the facade that they “tried to bring Ukriane to the table because they want peace” jut to talk tough and think they look strong trying to beat him down and make this look like Ukraine’s fault.   23. I’m just going to say I called it. When my mother told me Z agreed I said no way and that he agreed for some other reason with no intention to sign. I think he wanted to get into this confrontation to show he public what Trump is all about and maybe hopefully get some dirt out of him. At the very least it was a delay tactic to have Europe more time to provide help.

    I also think Trump and Vance acting so aggressive because Putin REALLY wanted this deal which would have given him a double win for being able to keep the land they already took and the ability to regroup. Putin is going to be pissed. GOOD.

  26. Don’t see what the US gained today, they lost the minerals deal, they lost standing in the world. Zelensky has had his back to the wall for a few years now and his loss today is minimal compared to what the US lost today.

  27. The very fact that Vance was invited to the meeting was suspicious to me from the start. A VP is usually not invited to these. This looked like a set piece, like they planned this ambush to paint Zelensky as “ungrateful” so they can sell their disgusting surrender to putin as a just thing to do. “Look, the guy is unreasonable, he didn’t kiss my ring in primetime, so kicking him to the curb is totally justified”.
