Going with some friend to Norway in June for a Friday night to following Sunday evening trip (so 9/10 days). We're looking at a combination train/ferry and of road trip.
Currently itinerary is this (approx route on Google maps in pic but this is all car which we don't plan to do).
Oslo
Oslo to Flam (train)
Flam
Flam to Bergen (ferry)
Bergen – Loen (car)
Loen – Geiranger (car)
Geiranger
Geiranger – Kris (car)
Kris – Oslo (car)
Hoping the drives are going to be scenic enough that the driving days are still enjoyable.
I'd like to get to the Atlantic Road hence Kristiansund.
We're also aware it's a big last leg, but the road seems to be "quicker according to Google". Guessing it's because it's not the Fjords route. The bigger car rentals seem to be ok with a one way trip between Oslo and Bergen too.
Any advice/thoughts are very welcome!! Thanks in advance.

Thoughts and prayers
I’ve driven from Bergen to Kristiansund and down to Oslo many times. The Kristiansund to Bergen trip is a bit dull, but there are scenic places there too, just more mountainous and inland landscape.
I am assuming you’re taking the ferry to Rysjedalsvika? I would recommend driving to Balestrand and Fjærland, then drive up to Byrkjelo. The inner Sognefjord is very beautiful and scenic. From Byrkjelo you can drive on to Loen as planned.
If you want to see the Atlantic Road I recommend driving from Molde to Hustadvika and then over the Atlantic Road to Averøy and then Kristiansund.
Er det knulle rute
I mean the routes are scenic for sure, but after a couple of hours it does get repetitive. Like it starts with «OH LOOK AT THE FJORD» to be like «oh another fucking fjord, have to drive all the way around?»
Between Geiranger and Kristiansund you should drive by Trollveggen/Trollstigen and of course through the atlantic ocean road.
It will add about an hour travel time, plus the time you might want to stop and enjoy the views.
Unless you really love roads, the Atlantic road can be a little underwhelming, especially if the weather isn’t great. It’s really not that long.
I would consider going by Ålesund and driving east by Åndalsnes instead. Going up Romsdalen valley is far more breathtaking than the Atlantic road. You would lose Oppdal which is a shame, it’s a beautiful mountain village. Kristiansund is a drive straight through- don’t stop city. Nothing to see there.
Nice, but I would turn west on R15 in Otta towards Beitostølen to get a little more scenic mountain roads. Here you will also pass one of the most iconic hikes, Besseggen, if you’re up for it 🙂
Hi, since your suggested route includes a train journey, here is an alternative: take the train North to Dombås then Reimabanen West
https://www.visitnorway.com/places-to-go/fjord-norway/northwest/listings-northwest/train-ride-on-the-rauma-line/989/
From here you can pickup a rental and drive Trollstigen, Valdres, Dalsnibba etc and loop back to Oslo.
For some more variety you should consider finding a way to include the south coast. Risør/Grimstad/Lillesand/Kristiansand/Flekkefjord.
Ålesund is enough, you don’t need Molde and Kristiansund.
If price is an issue, check if it is expensive to not pick up and deliver the car at the same place.
From Bergen to Loen I would have done as other mentioned, avoid E39 and cross Sognefjorden at Rutledal – Rysjedalsvika or Vangsnes – Dragsvik.
From Loen to Geiranger it might be an option to drive [https://www.nasjonaleturistveger.no/en/routes/gamle-strynefjellsvegen/](https://www.nasjonaleturistveger.no/en/routes/gamle-strynefjellsvegen/) from Stryn to Grotli (it usually opens in June), and then Geirangervegen to Geiranger.
If you want to add a scenic road to the last leg from Kristiansund to Oslo, [https://www.visitaursjovegen.no/english](https://www.visitaursjovegen.no/english) is not very far away. This can give some scenic view as a replacement for Trollstigen.
