

i got these two things while i was in germany last summer! i’m not really sure what they are (they just looked cool and fruity) or what the best way to consume them is. do you mix cocktails or something? looking for some tasty recommendations of what everyone’s favorite way to drink this stuff is!

Simply enjoy them as they are.
Basically, I would say you drink it as a shot. I know the cocktail „Kirschwasser“ only mixed with whiskey.
Not all of it in one sip
Best to drink at the end of the night in a state where you are already completely wasted.
You could make black forest gateau
Apfelwein: get it in Frankfurt in August. It’s absolutely delicious. No, it’s definitely Not the same as cider.
It is fruit brandy, the first one from cherries, the second one apple and pears. You can find it on wikipedia as obstler, palinka or rakija. It is pretty classic Bavarian / Austrian / Hungarian / Balkan stuff. It has a somewhat dated and working class / farmer image though. You drink it neat and at room temperature, there are no cocktails or mixers I know of.
Kirschwasser can be used for several recipes like Schwarzwälder Kirschkuchen, or in general any 🍫 and cherry 🍒 recipe. You can also flame 🔥 your pancakes with that.
Also kirschwasser is very often used by people that have an alcohol problem and need a quick fix at Penny Markt
These are schnapps (German spelling), drinks distilled from vegetable, grain or fruit matter (so technically things like vodka and whiskey are types of schnapps), and is generally drunk neat in relatively small shots — traditionally as a digestif after a meal.
Kirschwasser, distilled from cherries, can also be used as a flavouring for things like Black Forest gâteau and cheese fondue. The Obstler is made from apples and pears, and so is similar to calvados (but much less posh).
The best way to drink these is to drink something, anything, else.
The traditional way is to drink a few of them neat as a shot along with 10 – 12 beers, then start throwing chairs around until the owner of the pub throws you out and into a field.
Don’t expect it to taste fruity. That is not the case.
The first one you just palm in your hand under your sleeve and act as if you’re wiping your nose or something. Ideally in front of the supermarket.
Straight, often as a digestiv. Size of that bottle is two German shots, so share it with friend.
Or add it to coffee. With whipped cream on top, so that no one will smell that you spiked your coffee.
