It’s not that simple
I’m pro-Ukraine and I consider Zelenski to be a very good leader. He is smart, brave and ballsy and is fighting relentlessly for his nation. Being Polish, I obviously am aware of his attempts at punching Poland several times in recent years, which wasn’t that great 😉
However, just as Zelensky stated in his interview with FOX, foreign politics is not merely a result of decisions made by nations’ presidents – presidents act on behalf of a big chunk of their country’s populace and are always surrounded and supported by a large army of advisors, specialists and representatives of various sectors: financial, public, military, etc. So, the recent moves we’re watching now is not just evil Trump. It’s a broad agreement between Trump and a majority of Americans.
The USA is loosing the race for dominance over the world. After 30 years of the free global market system (designed, built and enforced by the US) it became clear that what once used to be a clever world-wide mechanism to maintain and strenghten the US as the leader of capitalism, is now working against them. China has benefited so much, it actually surpassed the US economically and is getting ready to take over the position of the world’s number one global power.
America had two choices – either accept its upcoming defeat or take a last shot at winning the race. By voting on Trump, Americans decided they want to take a last shot. How do they want to win? The plan is pretty ambitious: they want to dismantle the global market system which they created in the 90s. Instead of letting everyone trade freely (which have boosted and still boosting China so much) they want now to return to bilateral relations with each and every country separately in order to force / ask / manipulate / use whatever leverage / use the stick and carrot method as means to destroy businesses ties between China and the rest of the world. And here comes the interesting question: who’s standing in the way of achieving this ambitions plan? Europe and China (they want to keep the global free market system as it benefits them) Who want to disrupt the system (besides the USA?) – Russia
Therefore, we have two axes: China, Europe vs the USA and Russia. The USA wants to cut a deal with Russia in order to make Russia steer away from China’s influence. The USA also wants to weaken Europe as it is currently their natural enemy / obstacle in the USA – China war.
Ukraine doesn’t want to surrender, which makes it impossible for the US to start serious talks with the Russians, which, in turn, makes Trump so angry. Ukraine is effectively the one single reason the US can’t kick off a very important element of their new grand strategy.
I really don’t like Trump. And I like Zelensky. But, at the end of the days, it’s not a conflict between two individuals. It’s a conflict between two nations represented by the individuals and attempting at delivering some solid meat at the table for their nations.
I love the USA, it’s an awesome country. I understand their motivation – they don’t want to lose and get overthrown by China. Honestly, I don’t want China to rule the world neither. But the US is putting my country and my region (Europe) in danger. So my loyalty stays with Europe and Ukraine. Sorry, America.
