  3. The EU has basically no sphere of influence independent of the US. And with the rise of right-wing anti-European parties some countries like Hungary and Italy might not be quick to ditch Atlanticism and Trump.

    Even countries like Japan and South Korea aren’t just going to ditch the US military umbrella based on democratic values alone. So I don’t know who they expect to lead, or what they expect to lead.

  6. Or maybe the world should learn the lesson that concentration of power is a problem and it’s better to run the world as a collective instead of one overly powerful bloc and those opposed to it.

  8. The problem is who?

    Britain is basically America lite even now.
    Nobody trusts the French.
    The Germans don’t want the role plus they are almost as bad with Palestine as America so you can forget some of them having any kind of moral authority.
    And you can’t use the EU because states like Hungary will sabotage the mission in its cradle.

    So it’s a nice sentiment but at the end of the day it’s just not going to happen.

  9. As an American I agree with this. We are tired. We feel used and unappreciated. And despite all of our efforts to spread freedom, our ‘allies’ are becoming more and more totalitarian and socialist. Its like while we are busy playing world-police, this has given the elitists of other countries the cover they need to create a web of global socialist governance.

    Well, they can try to do that without us. ‘Free world’? Where people get criminal charges for calling a politician ‘fat’? Where elections get canceled because the ruling coalition screwed up their vote-splitting campaign? Someone else can have the ‘Leader of the Free World’ job for a while.

  10. The rumblings of the EU showing an interest in flexing itself are slowly starting build up. See if anything comes out of this. All depends on how badly the seppos push things. So far, badly.

    Not certain people realise that the EU has a lot of economic muscle. Well and truly they could potentially start competing against America interested.
