Supporting Ukraine is the rarest of unicorns: something that the vast majority of Scots/Brits can agree on. Left or Right, Nationalist or Unionist, Leave or Remain, almost all support Ukraine, and only the absolute looniest amongst us support Russia. Here’s hoping we double down on supporting Ukraine now.

It never really had a chance of “winning”, and without the US backstop it can no longer lose slowly. Nor can Europe fill the gap, and if they did, to what end?

Wish this sort of pearl clutching had been evident when Gaza was being flattened; when Libya was being seized by religious fundamentalists and sectarians; when Syria was being seized by religious fundamentalists and sectarians; when Saudi backed (with Brit weapons) Yemeni forces killed tens of thousands of Houthi civilians; when the civil war in Sudan killed thousands.

Fuck Ukraine!!! It feels like everyone has taken the virtue seeking pill on this community! Wouldnโt the BILLIONS that the uk has GIFTED to Ukraine have been better spent keeping our pensioners warm this winter? Possibly investing in education? Wars overseas is out of our control, freezing pensioners and starving children in 2025 is something that could be sorted overnight!
Maybe it’s at times like this that we should put political affiliations to one side – I’m neither here nor there with Swinney or his party, but no matter how often I read that statement, I can’t see how I’d alter one word if I wrote it myself, and I expect most of you folks feel the same.
Ok maybe I’m wrong, maybe we’re all wrong, maybe this is some kind of weird fever dream that we should all try to get out of while we still can, but we have to try and that’s all any of us can do.
