  1. MM is thinking “should I dance a gig” or “should I bring a bigger bowl of shamrock”

  2. I don’t see what’s to be gained by not going.

Zelensky said it best himself, to the effect that relations between countries go far beyond the personal relationships of the people at the top. Trump may be an aberration, or he may indeed be the new reality of the US for the coming years/decades, but that doesn’t mean Ireland needs to preemptively cut off that access until it is unsalvageable beyond all reasonable hopes.

Quite frankly, it would be dumb to waste the opportunity.

Whatever Mehole ends up doing to insult Vance or trump, we just send this as an apology.

  4. Mehaul is wondering if he goes, will his meeting turn into a massive shit show like yesterday.

  5. Trump probably gonna grandstand on corporation tax issue.

To be fair to MM, and I wudnt vote FF, he’s generally calm when facing aggressive opponent so he’ll have to plámás Trump, refer to Irish-American strong relationship since 1800’s and try not get drawn into ambush.

  6. Just keep saying “Go Raibh Maith Agat a Dónal” to him

The art of subtly never fails

  7. Been saying it for weeks but we needed to decline this invite. Look at how Trump hung the great Zelensky out to dry for the world to see yesterday. The U.S. is no ally of ours any more.

Ireland needs to pull together militarily with the rest of the EU and defend Ukraine from the Russian onslaught that’s coming.

Going to the White House would be a stupid move

  8. Wouldn’t be surprised if inbred cretins vance and trump bring up Ireland’s stance on Palestinian genocide.

  9. There should be no visits from any European leader. There needs to be consequences. Cut America off.

  10. I mean, come on. There’s absolutely no way he goes after that. Why are we even debating this?

The only reason for him to go is if he just eats the head off Trump when they’re on the sofas. “Ah would you ever cop on you pair of fucking godshites. Yer man there with the eyeliner, why is he talking? Shut the fuck up and go get me another pint. Now you, ya fucking orange cunt ya…” That kind of thing.

  11. I feel “That would be an ecumenical matter” is really going to come into it’s own in the coming weeks

  12. Micheál shows up with a bag of shamrock in a Dunnes bag, wearing a pair of oneills rip-offs and 2007 Cork hurling jersey.

  13. He’ll only do the same to Mícheál, imo. I think it’s best if we sit this one out and work on closer ties with the rest of the EU. We can’t afford to suck up to the US anymore

  14. Tell Chump to fuck off. We don’t need to play with bullies.

  15. Gonna be tough watching Trump and Vance say some nice words about our historic ties then call us a bunch of potato-eating leprechaun pacifists while MM smiles and nods awkwardly like he’s about to burst in tears

  16. He needs to constantly respond referencing Irish Americans (famine, British oppression etc) so that any attack trump does looks like an attack on Irish Americans. Zelenskyy didn’t have that

  17. MM was a teacher in Cork so he has experience dealing with idiots who have stupid ideas and shit haircuts

  18. Why can’t he just say I’m not going the big Jinny. Because he really wants to go. Really weak leadership

  19. On the other side….if he tells Trump he’s refusing the invite, bang goes our invite for the next 3 years also.

Wasn’t it always said that our great advantage as a tiny nation was a guaranteed Oval Office meeting once a year?

Yeah, it’s a massive risk to go…but if it goes fairly neutrally then you get 3 more chances for new investment proposals over the course of his term.

All it has to be is Not A Shitshow.

I’d probably take the risk but it’s a hard one as Trump is so belligerent and anti-Europe at the moment that it could well be a Shitshow.

  20. When Trump kicks off about how the EU are ripping the US off, Michael should tell him about our pending foreign owner golf courses tax 😀

  21. Oh I really wanted to watch this.

Well the old saying *”damned if you do, damned if you don’t”* comes to mind.

  22. Oh my god, two world leaders had a substantive disagreement in public, rather than pandering to diplomatic nicities!!! 🫢

  23. Starmer got on well with him we best. Hoping it will be warmer than that exchange

  24. He should go and if Trump starts shouting like this at him in public, tell him that he came as a representative on a diplomatic trip and if Trump is incapable of treating him with the respect befitting of an envoy of our nation, he will leave.

Walk out on the baby and make a clear display that no matter what the threat, he won’t be treated disrespectfully.

  25. MM will be well able. Not a FF voter, in fact an avowed never FF voter since the crash. But this is not MM’s first rodeo and he will be well able for this pair. My money is on him coming away with a perfectly uneventful textbook meeting.

  26. Please stay away if you truly feel that way. Israel has already dropped diplomatic relations and perhaps the United States should do the same while encouraging American companies to bring their office home.

  27. In all seriousness, do we really want to watch that little snivelling cunt JD Vance give Martin both barrels?

Even if you don’t care about security or international relations or Ukraine, do we really want to expose our Taoiseach to being abused by these smart arse fucks?

Imagine Trump humiliating Martin talking about how he’s going to tariff pharma and how Ireland is ripping the US off.

Trump and Vance seem to enjoy inviting world leaders in, to toy with them.

We really might be better off finding an excuse to give it a miss.

    Who needs that noise?

  28. As far as I can see they set Zelensky up to humiliate him, and did it because it plays well with domestic American First audiences, and (I admit this is more speculative) possibly to distract from the Epstein release non event.

I am seriously worried the Taoiseach will be humiliated by Trump simply because it will make an enjoyable spectacle for his base support.

This absolutely should be reconsidered. If it goes ahead I hope the Taoiseach has a plan for being publicly harangued about Irish tax policy by prominent members of the administration.

    Hopefully I am wrong.

  29. This will be a predictable ambush of issues against us.

    – Military Spending (wonder if Trump will want to buy Shannon)
    – Corp Tax
    – Apple Tax (would not be surprised if Trumps threatens us to spend the windfall on US trade)
    -Immigration
    – Gaza ( we should take Palestinians I’m guessing)

Oh and he will think we are in the UK like he did when chatting to Starmer about all the gold courses he owns..

  30. Better bring a big bottle of lube with him if he is going

  31. Personally I think MM is the best man for this job. He can’t not go and I would trust him to conduct himself properly, diplomatically and not tolerate any bullshit. He’ll be smarter than his US counterpart too.

  32. “Mr Trump is likely to be made aware of Mr Zelensky’s stopover in Ireland on the way to the ill-fated meeting.”

Slightly strange line in the article.

I doubt Trump cares in any way whatsoever where the plane Zelenskyy was on stopped over en route. Pretty meaningless.
