Incidentally, earlier this morning, prominent lawyer and former MP Franco Debono took his followers all the way back to December 1989, when Malta had hosted a summit between US President George H Bush and Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev, on a stormy day that went down in history as a key moment that led up to the end of the Cold War and the prevention of World War 3.

“Whoever thinks that America and Russia have to be enemies is not making sense,” Debono argued. “I’m going to make a big proposal,” he continued, calling on Prime Minister Abela, Minister Borg, and even EP President Roberta Metsola to organise a similar summit to that in 1989, this time between Trump and Putin, “but which also includes Zelensky and the representatives of Israel and Palestine”.

“I’m ready to contribute,” Debono continued. “Malta is in favour of peace. Malta is against the war. Malta is a leader in the process towards world peace.”
