Taiwan and Finland have signed a new aviation services agreement, allowing for direct flights between the two countries. The agreement, signed on Wednesday 28 February 2025, allows each side to operate up to 14 passenger and cargo flights per week, strengthening bilateral aviation cooperation.
According to Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA), the new agreement is expected to enhance air connectivity and trade between Taiwan and Finland, paving the way for increased economic and tourism exchanges. Taiwan’s major airlines, including China Airlines, EVA Air, and Starlux Airlines, are reportedly evaluating market opportunities for launching direct flights to Finland.
Finland’s national carrier, Finnair, has previously operated flights to East Asia, making the potential launch of a direct Taiwan-Helsinki route a strategic addition to its network. The Finnish airline has expressed interest in assessing passenger demand and logistical feasibility for such a route.
The agreement aligns with Taiwan’s broader efforts to expand international air links and facilitate travel for both business and leisure. Finland, known as a gateway between Europe and Asia, could serve as a key transit point for Taiwanese travelers heading to Europe.
Aviation analysts suggest that direct flights between Taiwan and Finland could attract business travelers, students, and tourists, while also providing a more convenient link for cargo shipments. The increased flight capacity is expected to strengthen trade relations and encourage tourism between the two nations.
Currently, passengers traveling between Taiwan and Finland must transit through other European or Asian hubs. A direct flight option would significantly reduce travel time and improve accessibility for both business and leisure travelers.
The Taiwan-Finland aviation agreement reflects ongoing efforts by both nations to deepen bilateral cooperation and enhance connectivity in the global aviation network. While no specific launch dates have been announced, discussions between airlines are expected to progress in the coming months.
