Icelandic heavyweight Gunnar Kolbeinn Kristinsson, 17-0, has revealed on social media that he has signed a contract for a title fight in Germany in May against an ‘undefeated opponent’. More details soon, concluded the 36-year-old, who is the only male professional boxer from Iceland.

Valgerdur Gudsteinsdottir is the only female boxer from Iceland, where professional boxing is prohibited, so both are fighting with a Swedish licence.

Kristinsson has been a pro since 2014 and has fought in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Austria  and USA where he is signed with Salita Promotion. He has spent a long time training under SugarHill Steward in the US, where he sparred Tyson Fury, and also on the island of Aaland as part of Robert Helenius’ team.

But it’s been a long time between fights and after 11 years as a pro Kristinsson is still relatively untested.
