  4. Ya, no shit. Insurance is only part of it. Maintenance is not cheap or available in all areas. Better to sell it before you crash it.

  7. Michael Mejía, who won the singer’s luxury car giveaway in December, confessed that he’s decided to sell the vehicle since he can’t afford the upkeep. He explained that while Shakira gave him $90,000 to maintain the car, it ultimately wasn’t enough in the long run.

    “So far, all the taxes for transferring the car, legal matters and insurance for six months have been paid, And now the federal taxes are due at the end of the year, and yes, that little account already costs more or less like $95,000.”

    Mejía added that while he was excited about winning the luxury car, he didn’t expect the insurance to cost $2,000 a month.

    “It is always quite expensive to maintain,” he said, noting then that after four days, he had to fill the gas tank twice, which cost $70 each time.

    Could’ve sold the car and pocketed 95k + Lambo sale price – taxes, title, and fees.

  26. Here’s where it’s get fucked.

    The lady who won it depending on how it was given pays a tax from the federal government for the total cost of the car worth. So if it’s a 250,000 lambo…and it’s a prize. She then pays has to pay 15-30% tax on the 250,000. Not to mention the insurance cost.

    When she sells it…she will also have to pay a tax.

    So anywhere between 30-60% of the cars worth is given to the government just on receiving and selling the car. Not to mention the states cut.

  29. Seriously. Sell it at an auction. A Lamborghini driven ans owned previously by Shakira would probably sell 3x the cars value new.

  32. this is why nearly everyone who wins the HGTV Dream Home sells it. a normal average american cannot afford the fees and taxes that come with luxuries if they couldn’t afford the luxury in the first place.
