KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The world looks a little greener thanks to a new energy-efficient home. Socially Equal Energy Efficient Development spent Saturday in the sun building a home that will save its owner money and give them a leg up on building generational wealth.

The house is designed to be energy efficient by using solar panels on the roof to save on energy costs. Workers said this is the third house of its kind they have built and they do not plan on stopping the momentum.

The project was sponsored by their partner, UT–Battelle, so they can give people learning opportunities as well as help bridge the housing gap. The project manager said he is grateful for the volunteers because the project couldn’t happen without them.

“Everything we do is community supported, volunteer based,” said Jerome Johnson, project manager. “So we couldn’t do it without volunteers.”

SEEED sells these houses to low-income people for under market value so they can start building wealth.
