  24. At this point, as a European and a firm, life-long believer in NATO and the transatlantic relationship, I think I would actually prefer if the US left NATO. It would remove any ambiguity about us being on our own, and it would prove to the last European holdouts that it would be folly to depend on America to defend us or honour any treaty obligations anymore. We’re on our own, time to face that reality and start acting accordingly.

  41. If the US loses their bases in Europe, they are fucked. Those bases are vital for US power projection in the Mediterranean and on to the Middle East, as well as providing crucial anti-ballistic missile and SIGINT that defends the continental USA. I agree that Europe has been freeriding but to call those bases a ‘raw deal for the USA is crazy. Only a moron or a traitor would risk losing them.
