Sad reality that a president can just make everything up to serve their narrative without repercussions. Trump pulled his numbers out of his ass and everyone knows it. He is just out to feed the outrage of the nationalists, keeping them angry at everyone else. After all if the USA isn’t fucked over, which it isn’t, they loose their biggest selling point. Fact checks like this does little to counter that. The maga crowd isn’t watching this nor believing it anyway. He needs to be fact checked right in his face, right when he utters these lies live on air. But that is very difficult to do because you never know what lie he is going to tell so having the facts ready to correct him at the go is difficult not to mention a journalist will do this probably just once and then lose their accreditation to white house press conferences.

This whole fiasco with the US is a result of unchecked political lies. trump has been using the same disinformation tactics on the American people that putin has used successfully to brainwash the russian people. He’s able to get away with his lies because he’s built up a fanbase of people who have become so invested in his success that they cannot see him fail, because that would amount to their personal failure. It’s like how people cheer for their favourite sports teams and become upset when their teams lose. This motivates them to not only countenance, but actively amplify, his lies. When enough people echo the same lie over and over again, it drowns out the truth and replaces it. As usual, all it takes for the liars to win is for the good people who care about the truth to do nothing. To reverse what trump has done, we need to start in the information space to quell trump’s disinformation. He needs to be called out, not just by Redditors, but by people with actual political power.

We mock trump to vent our frustrations. But in all seriousness, to the American people – you need to do something to fix your government. It’s one thing for trump to lie as a NY real estate developer, it’s quite another to lie as the US president. He’s been lying to the American people from day zero to get into office. Then he uses the legitimacy of the office of the POTUS to launder his lies. He teams up with musk and uses his own truth social platform to spread those lies. It doesn’t matter that there are still savvy and decent US citizens around, it doesn’t matter that more or less than half of you support him. The more he keeps telling those lies, the more they sound real to more people. Every lie repeated enough becomes a truth because people believe him. The people who believe him embolden him to do the terrible things that he does with impunity. That incentivises him to carry on lying. It’s a viscious cycle. When you become the minority who, despite being savvy about the truth, have to yield control of everything you hold dear to the dumb mob, nothing will matter anymore. Many people who find themselves in that position will simply give up because life would be so much easier to just go with the flow. Your beloved “land of the free” will be no more.
