Over 1,300 people of all ages participated in the third edition of ‘Run for Life’, which saw adults choosing between 5km and 10km races and 4km or 5km walks while children raced over a 2.5km distance.
On Sunday morning, Caritas Malta San Blas facility opened its doors to all those participating in the annual marathon.
In a statement following the event, Caritas said it awarded the top three of each age category, with athletes competing with The Club bagging most awards, followed by the Obstacle Course Academy and the Aloysians Athletics Club. The Convience Shops also awarded the company that had most of its employees competing in the annual event.
This year, the organisers had to close bookings five days earlier since the event was fully booked.
Caritas Malta thanked its sponsors the Convenience Shops, and collaborators including Sport Malta, St Patrick’s Athletic Club as well as the volunteers who made the event possible. It also thanked St John Ambulance and Rescue Malta, LESA, the Malta Police Force and Transport Malta.
Finally, it thanked Ħaż-Żebbuġ mayor Steve Zammit Lupi and the local council for supporting the event.
The Run for Life marathon campaigns for a healthy lifestyle without drugs and is aimed at encouraging people to take up sports. Funds are also raised in aid of its projects.
Prime minister Robert Abela ran for 10km while president emeritus George Abela walked 5km.
