The Vox Nova Chamber Choir will perform overseas during spring break

The choir will sing in both Spain and Portugal

They leave on March 15

The Vox Nova Chamber Choir from Gibbs High School is heading to Spain and Portugal over spring break with plans to perform in each country.

Director of Choral Activities, Matthew Clear, said the students can’t wait to explore as well as share a bit of our music with them.

“The music in our program is all American composers, so we’ll get to share our culture with those who attend our concert overseas while they’re sharing their culture with us as we eat their food and we stay in their country,” he said.

The choir is made up of nearly 30 students, one of which is Gibbs High School Senior Jayden Timothy.

Sunday’s performance at First Presbyterian Church was there last in the U.S. before they head across the Atlantic.

“I’m very excited because I’ve just never been able to do something like this before.”

Clear said 60% of the students have not been out of the country.

To be able to perform in the two countries is a great opportunity that gives students like Jayden a chance they might not get again.

“I had a trip with a different choir but it was to like North Carolina, so it was very different,” she said. “But to be able to go with my friends to a new place and just look around and experience different cultures, it’s just very special.”

The choir is taking off for their trip on March 15 and they’ll be there for a week.
