  1. It’s a splashback deflector plate. When you’re waiting for a subway and you need to go no. 1 you aim behind it and it prevents the droplets from staining your shoes.

  2. Okay, now I’m really interested in what the actual purpose is. Aside from deflecting splashback.

  3. Its called a cane rail or a crash rail. This is to protect the wall from heavy rolling things damaging the wall. Youll also see a similar variation under stairs on the ground level to help blind people not walk under the low overhang and hit their heads
