  1. At least he is trying. Hopefully Europe steps up as the US is failing to care.

  2. That’s why I respect Zelensky so much as a leader. He will sacrifice his own power for the sake of their people, vs some others who actively sacrifice their people for the sake of their power.

  3. Wow look at that a man willing to give up his power for the benefit of his country. Contrast that with trump the village idiot who is willing to give up his country for literally nothing.

  4. It would be messy, but the European powers *could* set up a parallel “mini-NATO”, excluding the US for now, that includes Ukraine.

It would echo the Bismarck-ian patchwork of treaties that (at first) prevented a broad European war in the late 19th century, before collapsing and leading to WW1.

  5. It’s hard to call him a dictator when he’s publicly willing to step down. Dictators typically don’t do that.

  6. A rare politician in today’s world where he prove by action in addition to words. Even rarer when that politician is willing to sacrifice his position for betterment of his people.

I wish politician in the caliber of Zelenskyy appear in US politics but vested interest on both parties would probably consider such politician as threat rather than asset.

  7. For the longest time, Russia was clear that they’d invade the second Ukraine ever tried to join NATO. Then they invaded anyway.

  8. Let’s make it a three way deal were Trump, Vance and Putin also resign, I mean Trump wouldn’t want to cause __WWIII__ and would do anything for the greater good like he said.

  9. It’s amazing what comes out of a leader when he’s not being shouted down by a circus and selectively curated press.

  10. Would be Godsent at this point, the amount of stress this guy is under.

Assassination attempts, Americas mockery, only reason to even have it at this point is because of a sense of responsibility

  11. As an American it maybe a good thing if America leaves NATO. This administration is so crazy they will block any chance Ukraine tries to join NATO due to Trump being Putin’s bitch boy. If America leaves NATO that would be one less major obstacle of Ukraine joining.

I hope America doesn’t leave, but who knows what Trump will do. I support Ukraine and Zelensky, they deserve anything they need to defeat Russia.

  12. They won’t let Ukraine in. It’s not because it’s Zelensky. It’s never because of him!!!

Ukraine would’ve fallen, and will fall fast without him. Trump knows that.

  13. I can only imagine if he can get Ukraine out of this mess he’d be happy to retire. This must have been stressful as hell.

  14. This is how a real leader acts. He went from a comedian to a statesman, while the U.S. got a douchebag that went to a clown.

  15. Do the USA and Hungary have a veto over a country joining NATO?

If so then there is no way that Putin’s puppets will allow Ukraine to join.

  16. I’m Canadian. It wasn’t too long ago (just about a year and a half ago) that I was saying that Canada shouldn’t be sending aid to Ukraine when the US was sending as much as they were, and saying that Canada should prioritize Canadians. Back then, I didn’t understand what the aid was or how that aid could be mutually beneficial. I also didn’t know much about the conflict outside of the fact that Russia aggressed, and that the deals for peace as outlined by Russia was unfair to Ukraine, but had little interest outside of that.

I’ve learned a lot since then, and my views have flipped significantly. But also through that process of learning, I’ve come to respect Zelenskyy a great deal. His words and actions speak volumes of his character. The Ukrainians should be proud to have a leader like him, who clearly puts his people first above himself.

  17. A man willing to forsake power for the safety of his people or a privileged draft dodger that’s willing to kick Americans out of a window if they disagree with him.

I know which one I was raised to respect and admire.

  18. Honestly at this point, kick the US out and bring Ukraine in. They believe in western values more than we do apparently.

  19. If compromised USA has its way, they will force Ukraine to surrender, sham election, USA will then withdraw from NATO and Russia will then go for round two with another European country. Wouldn’t it make more sense to just admit Ukraine and have an army that will actually help and stay on our side?

  20. If only America had a president that was even half the leader Zelensky is. Instead, we’re stuck with Putin’s footstool.

  21. This man is such an awesome leader. He’s humble. He’s passionate. He puts country before ego. He’s doing everything that he can to help his country. I’m all in.

  22. I don’t really get this because one of the conditions for NATO membership is not having any unresolved territorial disputes…

  23. They want him out so bad because they are terrified of him.

  24. The UK sitting outside of the EU will be in a prime position to spear head a deal with Ukraine with willing members of the EU. The EU itself might be hobbled by some its own constituents (Slovakia, Hungary).

  25. I hope entering Ukraine into NATO is the last thing he does before he retires so he can go out as a hero.

  26. Zelensky, who can’t hold election because it violates the constitution yet is willing to step down, is obviously a dictator, according to the guy who said he wants to be a dictator, suspend the constitution, and is toying with running for a third term…

  27. Just give him the fucking US’s spot for fuck same. We clearly don’t fucking deserve it.

Sobs in US. I hate it here.

  28. Trump and co keep using Zelensky stepping down as if they think it’s some kind of ‘gotcha’ moment. Almost like they can’t fathom willingly giving up power for the good of their country. Washington would dunk on Trump’s ass

  29. This world needs men like Zelensky. As far as I’m concerned, he is not exchangeable. How are we meant to improve the planet if the leaders actually willing to work for the people are forced out of power? And beyond that, it would set terrible precedent to hand him over for any kind of “deal”. No one should be rewarded for valor with betrayal. That’s a great way to get people to stop actually fighting the good fight.

  30. Don’t sign the deal! Fuck Trump, stand your ground!

  31. I’d be happy when Ukraine joins EU too. They deserve it.

  32. Change the definition of NATO, if NATOs dead then create a European version outside of US control. Something hyper local to Ukraine, that includes a set of nuclear states (Uk and France)

  33. I read once that the ideal way to tell if someone is an authoritarian would be to ask them “what could you accomplish that would make you irrelevant?” An authoritarian can’t answer because there’s no goal or principle that they would put before themselves. There’s no way in hell Donald Trump could answer that question. Zelensky just said it loud and clear.

  34. I will never unsee that on the one hand, we have a person elected to be the leader of the most powerful country in the world, and ends up being a clown.

And on the other hand, we have a clown and comedian, who ascended to become the president of his country and is the most widely recognized leader in the world right now.

  35. I get it, NATO grants ukraine guaranteed security but death end of day without USA. AS DOES ALL OF NATO.

What should happen is USA Republicans outside of reddit who know what’s going on (they’re the majority and r/conservative are minority like all of reddit minority for anyone who isn’t x leftist minority in real world), need to stand up

We have republican supporters en masse and democrat en masse telling idiots they voted for to do better. Keep up the pressure. Forget reddit

REDDIT DOESNT MATTER GO OUT AND GET FOLKS TO BE MAD WHICH IS WHAT IS HAPPENING.

  36. I can’t think of any current world leader that would be willing to make a sacrifice like that.

In a time when the world is governed by thin-skinned, self-serving, silver-spooned morons it has been an absolute privilege to witness the rise of this remarkable man. A man whose leadership will be recorded in the annals of time as one of the greatest. A true hero of our time.
