How to fix cat scratches on wall? Need help matching paint color and identifying wall texture
Hi everyone,
My cat has decided my living room wall is the perfect scratching post, and now I have several noticeable scratch marks to fix. I have a couple of issues I'm not sure how to tackle:
- The wall is painted some shade of off-white, but I have no idea what the exact color is. I don't have any leftover paint from the previous homeowner. How do I match this color correctly? Are there any tricks to finding the right shade?
- I'm not even sure what material/texture the wall is. It's not completely smooth but doesn't have an obvious texture pattern either. How can I identify this so I can properly repair it?
I'm a beginner at home repairs, so any advice on the whole process would be greatly appreciated – from fixing the scratches to matching the paint and texture. Thanks in advance!

The Material is „Rauhfasertapete“. I‘d bet the color was some soft of „Alpina weiß“.
With the damage, a new coat of paint would do the trick. Downside: you will probably have to paint the whole wall.
Looks like [Rausfasertapete](https://www.google.com/search?q=raufasertapete&sca_esv=bd7bf8dd8e542703&udm=2&biw=412&bih=742&sxsrf=AHTn8zqXQcBvGDVk5lv7pVFTjSVuDdvmMg%3A1740952993332&ei=odXEZ-aEFLaA9u8PzKPPiQo&oq=raufasertapete&gs_lp=EhJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWciDnJhdWZhc2VydGFwZXRlMggQABiABBixAzIKEAAYgAQYQxiKBTIKEAAYgAQYQxiKBTIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAESNE_UIAGWJY7cAF4AJABAJgBngGgAfURqgEEMjMuNLgBA8gBAPgBAZgCFKACqA2oAgXCAgcQIxgnGMkCwgIHEAAYgAQYDcICCBAAGIAEGKIEwgIKECMYJxjJAhjqAsICCxAAGIAEGLEDGIMBmAMIiAYBkgcEMTYuNKAH5m0&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img)
I suggest you drive to the next construction market and ask there for help.
Looks like “Raufasertapete”. Quite common in Germany. Is basically paper with some wooden “chips” that is painted over: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingrain_wallpaper](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingrain_wallpaper)
I would leave it like this, and you will probably have to replace it and paint it, when you move out.
You could paint it over, but it will have to be the whole room as even if you know which paint was used, it will be visible as the paint changes its color slightly, with time and depending on light.
You don’t need the wallpaper, you can use Raufaserfarbe (like this https://media.hornbach.de/hb/packshot/as.84985061.jpg?dvid=8) that should fix it
It’s probably painted with some Alpina paint. They have this [tube for small fixes](https://www.bauhaus.info/dispersionsfarben-weiss/alpina-ausbesserungsfarbe-alpinaweiss-sos-innenfarbe/p/25243835). It comes with a small sponge integrated. I’d cut the bits that are peeled off before using it.
If the colour difference is too visible you might have to pain the whole wall. Test on one spot first before committing to all of them 🙂
