  1. Heartbreaking. Some great memories there!

    End of an era.

  2. But the death slides???

Dinosaur Park was up for sale recently too.

  3. I’m almost not surprised, but a little sad. Oakwood is an institution.

  4. Can remember a friend working there in the early 00s when girls aloud played at one of the after dark shows!

  5. Honestly it’s been going downhill for years. The last time I went I remember being shocked at how little I enjoyed it.

  6. Ah man I used to love that place. I went a few years back and it was looking a little run down sadly. Such a shame as I remember having amazing trips there with my family and school 😢

  7. Wow!! So many great memories of that place as a kid. Not been in years though tbf. Super sad news still.

  8. Nutty Jakes goldmine ride, next to cinema 2000. I haven’t been in 30 years, but we used to go every summer with our comprehensive school, It’s sad as it was a great park back in the day, the go carts, bobsleigh, pirate ship, roller coaster. I think the last time I was there, they were building megafobia.

  9. What?? No way!!! How sad! Every school trip, first long car trip after passing test, the little train from the car park, so sad.

  10. So many family trips there! Wonder if it’ll end up like Penscynor Wildlife Park and an Urbex wonderland?

  11. lol, trying to shift the blame onto anything but themselves in that statement about rising costs. End of the day people didn’t come to your park because you neglected to develop the place for years back when you had the chance, and gave no incentive for people to come back.

The theme park was a key point of my teenage years. One of my favourite memories as a teenager is being with a group of people at Oakwood whilst it’s dark and a firework display is blasting whilst MCR music plays. But then in the late 2000s every time I went back the park it felt worse, and worse, and worse. To the point I completely stopped going.

Every year on following from that I’d think “I wonder how Oakwood’s doing? I’d like to go back after all these years”, to be met with people saying it’s worse than ever and not bother making the trip.

Sad to see. I wish I’d gone one final time as it’s been over a decade at this point 🙁

  12. RIP to a real one

Megafobia the scariest ride there because you didn’t know if it was gonna break every time you got on it. Hydro with the unfortunate accident that tarnished its legacy. Tree Tops where you’d clip a few branches every time you rode. Bounce which didn’t seem to work 80% of the time. Speed, as on of the newest addition, was genuinely really fun. The Pirate Ship was also very good there.

It’s gonna be a blow to the local area; not just on revenue but also employment but, as some people have said, it’s been going downhill for a while. Wish it could be salvaged in some way but theme parks are a huge financial risk.

  13. Not much of a shock unfortunately. I haven’t been there in over 20 years but I did see some photos of the place about 10 or so years ago and it was just sad.

  14. Really disappointing that there won’t be a theme park in Wales anymore

  15. Aaaargh! Me and my family have so many great memories of Oakwood, the wooden rollercoaster, the properly scary metal rollercoaster, trying to get the tinkerbell ride to crash into the kiosk, telling my wife we were at the bottom of the big tower thing and her opening her eyes to see we were at the top (still hasn’t forgiven me 25 years later!) Feeling sick on the pirate ship, but mostly my 8 year old daughter’s all out fear turning to total excitement the first time she rode the wooden rollercoaster, after taking an hour to convince her to try, once she did it once we must have gone round 10 times that day!

  16. I used to go every year with my school, i wanted to go back again at some point.
