Cypriot government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed on Tuesday that the Republic of Cyprus had received an official invitation from United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres to attend the expanded meeting on the Cyprus problem to be held in Geneva on March 17 and 18.
The letter “points out that the objective of the meeting is a substantive exchange of views on achieving progress on the Cyprus issue,” he said.
He added that the meeting will begin with a meal on March 17, before continuing with bilateral contacts the following day, with a plenary session of the participants to be held at the Palais des Nations at the end of the two days.
Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides said on Sunday that the Republic of Cyprus’ preparations for the conference were continuing and that he was going to Geneva “with one and only one objective, to achieve a positive outcome,” noting that a positive outcome could not be anything other than the resumption of talks.
Diplomatic sources in Athens confirmed that Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis has received the official invitation from the UN Secretary General.
