  1. > Following a BBC request, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office will provide the extra funding to cover urgent and unexpected costs that have arisen as a result of the conflict.

I’m guessing this is also to get them back on short wave?

  2. BBC World Service should charge a license fee, send some letters and the vans round and let the Russian’s pay for their own propaganda.

  3. Note: prior to 2014, the World Service was almost wholly funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The Conservatives under David Cameron progressive reduced its funding starting in 2010. The world service has been paid for out of ordinary BBC budgets since 2014.

This is another classic example of Conservatives cutting a service then expecting praise for giving a small amount of it back. Like their much heralding pledge in 2019 to [put 20000 police officers on the street](https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-are-the-conservatives-putting-20000-police-on-the-streets), which worked out only to replace those who were cut between 2010 and 2019 in the austerity era.

  4. Majid Narwaz is fond of saying jihadist prisoners who hate the West only listen to BBC World service because it is the only reliable source of information.

    Really says it all.
