DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – We’re getting a better idea of how Canada’s retaliatory tariffs could impact energy prices in northern Minnesota.
Lake Country Power said it uses Great River Energy as its wholesale power provider.
Great River receives about 2% of its energy from Canada.
Even after Ontario’s premier threatened to cut off energy to Minnesota and two other states Tuesday, Great River leaders said they don’t believe the tariffs will affect the company’s ability to deliver reliable and affordable energy.
They also said that this is a fluid situation that Great River Energy is monitoring closely.
We also reached out to Minnesota Power to see if their customers could be impacted by Canadian tariffs.
We’ve not heard back.
