Just been out to the bin and noticed this lovely sight. Is it a sewer cover at first glance? Partner has just been in the shower so I don't know if that's contributed to it. Just wondering if we can do anything to sort this or if it's an immediate call the local water authority job?

  1. Immediate call to the sewer police or whoever, teenage mutant turtles is it?

  2. Had a customer ask me to have a look at one of these a few weeks back, opened it up and it was brimming with turds. Good luck!

  3. Call your local water provider, tell them your manhole is overflowing and the blockage is downstream. People pay private companies hundreds, when it is usually a free service (unless it is solely on your property).

  4. Probably a sewage blockage, we had one a few years ago which turned out to be from one of the neighbours flushing baby wipes.

Contact whoever runs your water service and they’ll send out a team to investigate.

  5. I can smell that picture. I’m browsing reddit while having a shit, so that’s probably why.

  6. I just called my water supplier in the morning and reported it. They came out while I was at work. Got home to it fixed. I was very impressed.

  7. I’ve had a similar problem, it’s overflowed 3 times this year. Luckily it’s a shared line otherwise I’d be well out of pocket. Fingers crossed they found out why it was blocking up and have now fixed it. Still check it every day though. Anyway, call the water board and they’ll send someone out to rod it and probably shove a camera down for a look-see.

  8. You’ve likely got a blockage. Do you and your partner flush toilet wipes?

  9. Needs rodding, probably a build up of loo roll blocking it.

  10. In my experience; suffer for several years until you finally get a competent crew out from the water company and they find the rubble that the neighbouring businesses had chucked down the drain.

But seriously, call the water company and if you can afford it call a private company to find what the water company couldn’t be bothered to see.

  11. Lid off and drain rods. Clear the block. Normally easy. Shower after.

  12. If you share the drainage with a neighbour then the water company will come and clear it, even if it’s on your property. If you have the sole use then it’s your problem.

  13. This happened to us on NYE just gone, went into the garage to get some party supplies, noticed a horrific smell and that’s when we saw the manhole had overflowed and was nearly touching all our unpacked boxes from moving house… We didn’t even realise we had a manhole in the garage!

We called our local water company who came and sorted it within 2 hours, including cleaning and disinfecting the area, and all for free. They fixed it 30 mins before our guests started arriving too.

  14. Get some rods, lift the cover and give it a good poke. Worked for me when this happened. Beware – The sight and smell under that cover is not for the faint of heart lol

  15. We had an external blockage that we didn’t know about until our toilet wouldn’t drain away when we flushed it. We decided that we wouldnt use the toilet anymore that evening and we would call it in the next morning (it was a sunday night) A couple of hours later when the kids had a bath and pulled the plug to drain the bath, the bath water forced sewage out of our downstairs toilet! Not a fun Sunday night at all, had to call up for an emergency appointment from a drain rodding company to get it sorted, worst thing I’ve ever had to clean up in my life 🤢

  16. Had something similar when our youngest flushed an entire pack of wet wipes. After much plunging and fishing we called dynorod.

After being charged through the nose they said sticking a hose attached to a pressure washer down there and giving it a blast would have solved it. Might be worth a try.

Best of luck with the turds/mutants.

  17. Just had this issue a few weeks ago. Bought a drain snake for cheap on Amazon. Rammed and fiddled the turds that were stuck 10 meters downstream and it all flowed away within seconds.

I only did this as the water company said the callout was 3-5 days despite it flooding out and risking damaging my outbuilding and I didn’t want to pay hundreds for a private company to jab some poos with a stick when I’m totally capable of jabbing my own poos.
