It’s a bit of a shame whilst writing this article, Paul Johnson has framed Downes as a ‘Republican’.
The man who murdered him wasn’t aware of his background at the time he was shooting him, in the same way that his colleagues who were assaulting other journalists that day weren’t too worried about who they were beating up.
