The previous national heat record for 6 March was +13.8 C in 1995, also in Daugavpils.

In most of Latvia, the air temperature rose above +10 C. This is the first time this year that the 10 degree mark has been exceeded.

The record for the maximum daily air temperature was broken by 14:00 at all observation stations except Liepāja, Pāvilosta, Rucava, Ventspils, and Zvejniekciems.

In Rīga, the air warmed up to +14 C, beating the +12.3 C recorded on March 6, 1961.

Forecasts show that heat records will also be broken on March 7. The highest air temperature ever recorded in Latvia on this date was +12 C in Rīga in 1920.
