Some two-thirds of European defense procurement is spent on American weapons. If the U.S. switched off the targeting of HIMARS in Ukraine — a country fighting a war that not just Kyiv, but most of Europe, consider existential — buying any American technology will soon be considered a security risk.

  1. Not to mention, all shit we bought will be completely useless. We should ask for our money back!

  2. America didn’t switch off himars and there is no alternative for US satelite data. It will be a multi decade effort to get even close to the current US satelite network

  3. If countries start buying weapons else where, and hurt America Military Industrial Complex business, then this may finally get in to Trump’s tiny little brain that his rich friends are being hurt in the wallet.

  4. US: we’re getting 1.2% of your GDP. That’s not enough. Spend more

Rest of NATO: fine. We will spend 2.5% of our GDP domestically. So instead of 2/3rd of 1.8% you will get 0 out of 2.5%

US: No! Not like that! You were supposed to send me more money so I can control you even more

  5. You’d think the Great Deal-maker would realize he’s shooting himself in the foot. The US MIC stood to score big time. But now…

  6. To be clear, what they “turned off” was the tap of intelligence data that told Ukraine what targets to shoot at. Ukraine can still use HiMARS to its full effect against targets that **they** identify or that a non-US ally identifies and communicates to them. It’s not that they’ve bricked HiMARS or anything, they’re just not telling Ukraine where to fire it anymore.

  7. Nobody switched off any targeting system of anything. Why is this bullsh*t repeated and repeated? The US stopped providing INTEL, eg satellite images etc. That makes it more difficult to find out where the Russian headquarters are, the Russian ammo dumps, etc. So it makes it more difficult to find a good target for HIMARS. But if the French provide a Satellite image, then Ukraine still can use their HIMARS system. Nothing about the HIMARS system itself is or will be disabled.

  8. On the other hand, reverse engineering current US systems to remove backdoors and locks will be a booming business.

  9. Canada must stop all American procurement of weapons and pause contracts immediately.

Award more to European nations and develop our own capabilities to build our own.

American technologies all have kill switches…why would you ever trust them again?

  10. We need to go full european. We need good european alternatives for all products. Doesnt matter if its some military tech or “just” a european Social media.

  11. The US are a liability along with their orange overlord. First step for the US to regain any shred of respect in the world is to depose their dictator. Second step will then be decades of respectable behaviour. Then we can talk about restarting defence cooperation.

  12. Any US weapons system is now unreliable. If Russia invades Europe, and Russia says it will, then the USA will turn off all US weapons systems.
My country has F35s, and I’m worried.

  13. I am wondering when Trump is going to stop shooting America in the foot. Meanwhile French, British and German arms manufacturers are besides themselves with glee. By the way a chunk of the avionics of the F35 was developed by BAE Systems. Guess what the B stands for?

  14. They already know it so check contract cancellation in couple of weeks

  15. We cannot trust the US anymore. We need to rip up the contracts for the F35’s and buy Swedish Gripen or maybe French planes we just can’t trust the US

  16. Agreed, you see what your war of the future will be. Move away from us thinking and develop your own systems. Starting with guidance, drone offense and defense. unmanned systems.

  17. And now what, a massive reduction if not completely cutting it off , well done US , proper shot yourself in the foot 🤦🏻‍♂️

  18. The US has probably spent trillions on space capabilities since the 1950’s.

  19. Simple fact the European military manufacturing is pretty shit a lot of countries buy military equipment and ordnance from abroad rather than produce it themselves

  20. We need to develop weapons inside Europe whilst avoiding buying from Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia, and Swizerland.

  21. Except, the US did not do that, because they cannot do that remotely. What the US has done is stop supplying intelligence and therefore targeting information. But the HIMARS still work and still go boom.

  22. Soon?

Buying from the US is buying from the future enemy.

  23. MAGA are traitors. End of stories, they will happily surrender to Putin.

  24. This is generally true of all American software, hardware, and digital services as was shown in Trump 1.0. You can be shut down with the stroke of a pen for any reason whatsoever.

  25. imagine being Taiwan there with all of these American weapons with the knowledge that if China attacks the CCP only have to spend a billion dollars on Trump meme coins and those weapon systems will be switched off.

  26. Same reason the Swiss defence companies are taking a beating…. no one can trust an uninterrupted supply chain if they dont provide the weapons and support during active combat

  27. It’s gonna be amazing when Europe grows their one military manufactures and America’s slowly die out.
