Has everyone who hates her said what they want to say ? Can we all move on. Sussex is her last name. You all go nuts when Kate Middleton is called Kate Middleton. A married woman can use her married name, and enough with these posts that are thinly veiled hate and trolling.
If she wanted to go by that name why didn’t she use that in her branding? She clearly wanted to say, I’m the Duchess of Sussex now (aka the thing she uses on all her branding) but realized midway through the sentence that’s a fucking insane thing to say on tape.
Does Harry go by Harry Sussex too? Converting names to US conventions is confusing.
I don’t have any issue with her being called Sussex. I will call anyone whatever they want to be called.
The issue I have with it is, despite having many highly paid PR, communications executives etc. newspapers, magazine etc. have all referred to her as Meghan Markle if she wanted to be known by Sussex use those and your PR team to put it out there. Don’t correct a so called friend and visitor out in public as a way to do it.
My personal opinion is that is it rude, and she had many other ways to do this instead.
How odd that they are using “Sussex” as their last name. I wonder why they didn’t stick with Mountbatten-Windsor as their legal last names?
It’s the media driving this similarly to how they still refer to Catherine as Kate Middleton
In the first place, it won’t work. Just ask Kate Middleton. In the second place, I think she’s possibly misunderstood something in that when the children were at school and military in this generation they were known by the titles but only in that setting. So perhaps she thinks this is an option. Thirdly, it’s bad for branding. People do refer to them as the Sussexes sometimes, but she’s most appealing when she has more of a “Just call me Meghan” vibe. Oddly, acting less royal as a non working royal makes you seem more royal.
It’s such an odd moment. If she wanted to send a message this is her name, she chose a really awkward way to do it. Call yourself what ever you want! But acting like it’s common knowledge her whole family uses Sussex as a last name feels like a miss when even an invited guest on her tv show thinks she goes by Markle.
I finally watched the episode where she corrected Mindy “you know I am a Sussex now” lol it was so awkward , felt like she was lecturing Mindy after she just complimented Meghan . I was like where did this come from ? And the bit about all of them sharing the same surname being special 🤦🏽♀️ isn’t this a normal thing for all families?
It’s just so bizarre that she keeps on bringing up her title and connection to Britain (she said on the drew Barrymore show that the kids have British accent sometimes) like didn’t she just spend the last few years trying to distance herself from the RF and UK and talking about how happy she was to come back home 🤷♀️
And if Meghan or their camp are hoping that media would start referring to her as Meghan Sussex 🤣 lol it’s been 14 years of us Cambridge/wales fans shouting and dragging media to start using Kate’s title instead of Kate Middleton 😅
i know people just absolutely hate her but anyone saying they shouldnt be using sussex is just a pure hater. harry went by harry wales for the majority of his life. the york girls used york at work as adults. it makes way more sense for harry to follow that naming tradition than using M-W. they all use sussex as a last name and its not weird
That’s smart and makes sense. She should start billing herself as “Meghan Sussex” instead of “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex” now. It goes better with the relatable California cool vibe she’s going for.
If I remember correctly, when Prince Archie was born the name on an official document (a birth certificate? I saw a photo of it but can’t be sure) was Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. I distinctly remember being impressed by that. Like, they’re so cool – they’re giving up the privileges their family deserves just so their son can have a shot at a normal life.
Best of luck to her, but I am 100% positive that the press is still going to call her Meghan Markle because of SEO.
I feel the same way about this as I do about people getting bent out of shape about Kate Middleton. People and the press are always going to use those names. It’s just how it is. In addition, for Meghan, there’s the added complication that Meghan, [the] Duchess of Sussex is different from Meghan Sussex, and people will endlessly argue about whether she’s using her title or name correctly whatever she does.
I understand wanting to express why using Sussex, either as a last name or as a title, is important to her. And I also think the way she did it in the show didn’t really land the way she’d probably hoped, even with some of her sympathizers.
For any other celebrity this would be a passing flub that wouldn’t get much attention, but unfairly and unfortunately for her it will of course be more grist for the mill.
She doesn’t want to be known by her maiden name anymore. Member of the Royal Family who are entitled to the style and dignity of HRH Prince or Princess do not need a surname, but if at any time any of them do need a they are entitled to use Mountbatten-Windsor. In practice/functionally they also can and do use the title which in this case is Sussex. William and Harry (e.g., William and Harry Wales) and William’s family (e.g., George Cambridge, now George Wales) did this for years and there was no issue. This is all just so tedious.
I’m glad she cleared it up because as effective just going by Meghan has been I was curious what she would pick!
The Queen gave “Sussex” to her and Harry and didn’t ask them to not use it even through all the drama that went into their exit, so whatever.
According to Eholmes who in the past has gotten confirmations and briefings from her team + was given advanced screeners and has been invited to cover events of Meghan’s (so relatively credible, in that she does get told things by the Sussexes teams)

So their legal surnames are Mountbatten Windsors but they essentially go by Sussex in school….
