Plant trees, fill potholes, feed homeless people. Literally anything which is net good for society as a whole but the government can’t seem to get in check – force criminals to do it at the crack of dawn every day in lieu of longer sentences
Getting a criminal record at that age bars a lot of further career opportunities, which he’ll find out soon enough I’m sure.

This disgusting robbery that’s all over YouTube etc for all to see, the best a judge can inflict on the offender is your not buying new trainers this month, your paying £200 in compensation to the security guards you and your mates with knive(s) terrified while you looted an Apple store in broad daylight and caused customers to flee.
No wonder faith in our justice system is at an all time low & I can’t speak for elsewhere but there’s a crimewave in full effect local to me, and the police have been absolutely shocking.
Why does the headline make it sound outrageous? This lad this kid went in a shop and nicked £50k worth of stuff!
If it was your house that was robbed of £50k most readers would want them hung
When people rob from companies they think it’s a victimless crime, guess what the company protects its margin by raising costs

The simple solution where an offender has no real income would be to extract it from the guardian or make it so that when / if the offender starts earning later in life or gets benefits it is removed from that.
Did the kid do something wrong? Absolutely. Is there something wrong with a bunch of (assuming) adults here baying for the blood of a kid? Absolutely.
What an angel at the age of 14 – I am sure he would become a good man after his.

So no real punishment then. If he is part of a gang stealing £50k worth of iPhones then his income is not limited to his pocket money.
His mum is lying and this is no deterrent to him carrying on with what is almost certainly a patten of behaviour.
I agree with not automatically putting kids in prison when they do something like this. But its not stealing sweets from the supermarket this was intended to make them a lot of money selling the phones on. He should at the very least be getting significant community service for this.
A 14 year old boy to come up with 50k within a year? Good luck with that, let me know how it works out.

£100 compensation is a bit of a kick in the teeth for the security guard isn’t it? How come compensation for this sort of thing is set at what is (very) affordable?
He was part of an organised criminal gang that was robbing an iPhone store,
pocket money might not be his only source of income
Just to recap,
If he got away with it = £50k of profit,
If he’s stopped = £100 fine
Sure is a mystery why crime is sky rocketing
Better idea, Lock him the fuck up for a couple of years.
Mercy to the criminal is cruelty to the innocent.
They should pass a law where they start fining the parents for the crimes their children comit, then perhaps they would start to take an interest in what their kids are up to.
Interesting that parents get fined for taking their kids out of school to go on a family holiday, but their kids can commit serious armed robbery and somehow it’s got nothing to do with the parents.
The judge probably thought he was being clever. Judges are idiots too.
And he has to go to his room straight after school every day!
Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with this country’s justice system? Run around with a gang, robbing stores, and you just get told you’re a very naughty boy, please don’t do it again? All he’s learnt from this is that the law is a soft touch.
